Key Takeaways

  • 1The official Kenya eTA guidance reviewed does not publish a dedicated UAE nanny, housemaid or domestic-helper checklist.
  • 2The helper’s passport nationality drives eTA eligibility; UAE residence is supporting context, not a substitute for nationality.
  • 3Prepare sponsor evidence if the family pays: sponsor letter, employment relationship evidence, UAE residence context, financial support, matching itinerary and return plan.
  • 4Upload optional sponsor documents only if the live eTA form requests them, but carry key arrival documents because Kenyan officers may ask for return travel, funds, accommodation and itinerary.
  • 5Third-country private-staff or Schengen checklists can guide preparation logic, but they are not authority for Kenya.

Kenya Visa for a Nanny from the UAE: what the file must prove

A Kenya visa for a nanny from the UAE is not a separate official category in the Kenya eTA guidance reviewed for this article. The applicant is still the nanny, housemaid or domestic helper as an individual traveller, and her passport nationality must be checked for Kenya eTA eligibility. Kenya’s eTA eligibility page lists eTA types, including a Standard eTA that allows entry once, but the official page reviewed did not show a dedicated domestic-helper, nanny or housemaid visitor category (Kenya eTA eligibility page).

The UAE family’s role is evidence-based: if the household pays for the trip and the helper travels with the family, the file should make that relationship easy to understand. Kenya’s eTA portal says an eTA is used to determine eligibility to travel, but final admissibility is decided at the point of entry; it also states that a person applying on behalf of another traveller must have that traveller’s consent (Kenya eTA declaration). That matters when a sponsor or employer completes the form for a helper. For application support on this route, see Oki-Doki’s Kenya Tourist Visa (eTA) service.

Evidence problem: the family is paying, but the helper is the traveller

The most common weakness in a Kenya eTA for a domestic helper from Dubai is not the lack of one magic document. It is a mismatch between the person travelling and the person funding, booking and explaining the trip. Kenyan immigration officers may ask foreign nationals on arrival for an eTA, return or onward travel evidence, funds for the stay, accommodation or host contacts, and a travel itinerary, according to the Directorate of Immigration Services (Kenya arrival procedures). If the nanny will not show her own personal funds, the family should be ready to show why sponsor-funded travel is credible.

This does not mean Kenya has verified a special mandatory sponsor-bank-statement requirement for every tourist eTA domestic-helper case. It means the file should be coherent if the live eTA form requests more information or if the helper is asked questions on arrival. Kenya’s eTA declaration also says the authorities may contact the applicant before, during or after travel to clarify information in the application (Kenya eTA declaration).

Prepare if relevant, upload only if requested

  • Nanny’s passport, with validity checked against Kenya’s arrival requirement for a passport or valid travel document valid for at least six months.
  • Recent photo if requested in the live eTA form.
  • Copy of the helper’s UAE residence visa and/or Emirates ID to evidence UAE residence and return context, not as a substitute for passport nationality.
  • Domestic-worker contract, sponsorship file or employment evidence, if available and lawful to share.
  • Sponsor letter from the family explaining the relationship, travel purpose, costs and return plan.
  • Sponsor passport, Emirates ID and UAE residence evidence where relevant.
  • Sponsor financial evidence where the family is covering flights, accommodation, food, insurance and local costs; use it to support proof of funds, not to imply approval is guaranteed.
  • Shared flight booking, return ticket or onward travel evidence.
  • Hotel booking, villa booking or host address and telephone contacts that match the family’s stay.
  • Day-by-day or summary travel itinerary showing tourism plans in Kenya.
  • Travel insurance, especially where the family wants to show arrival readiness and medical-cost planning.
  • Written consent from the helper allowing the family to submit the eTA on her behalf.

Evidence problem: the employment relationship is obvious at home, not on the file

A UAE household may see the helper’s role as self-evident because her visa, contract and routine all sit inside the family’s life. A Kenya eTA officer or border officer will not have that context unless the evidence explains it. The employment relationship should be documented without overclaiming that Kenya officially requires a domestic-worker contract for every tourist eTA; the official pages reviewed did not establish that.

Use the employment evidence to answer four practical questions: who is the helper, who employs or sponsors her in the UAE, why is she travelling with the family, and why will she return to the UAE after the trip? If the family is also travelling with children, the role can be explained as childcare support during a temporary tourism trip, provided the trip is genuinely tourism and not employment in Kenya. If the helper will work in Kenya beyond accompanying the household during a short visit, the tourist eTA route should be checked before filing.

For comparison, third-country private-staff checklists can be useful as preparation logic, but they are not Kenya rules. A Schengen or VFS-style checklist, or a country-specific route such as UK visa options for UAE-based private staff, may remind a family to prove employment, funding and return plans. It should not be quoted as authority for a Kenya tourist eTA.

Evidence problem: the sponsor letter says one thing and the bookings say another

The sponsor letter is often the simplest document in the package, but it can create problems if it conflicts with the booking trail. Dates, names, hotel address, flight routing and who pays must match the application and supporting documents. If the family’s Kenya trip is split between a hotel, safari lodge and host address, list those clearly instead of using one vague accommodation line.

Use a concise letter on the family sponsor’s signed statement. It is not an official Kenya form; it is a practical explanation document. Include:

  • Full name of the helper as in passport.
  • Passport number and nationality.
  • UAE residence or Emirates ID details, if available.
  • Employment role: nanny, housemaid, domestic helper or childcare support for the household.
  • Name of the UAE sponsor or employer and relationship to the helper.
  • Travel dates and Kenya tourism purpose.
  • Names of family members travelling with her.
  • Who pays for flights, accommodation, food, travel insurance and local expenses.
  • Hotel, lodge or host address and telephone contact in Kenya.
  • Return-to-UAE plan, including return flight or onward travel evidence.
  • Confirmation that the helper has consented to the eTA application being prepared or submitted on her behalf, if applicable.

A sponsor letter should not state that approval is guaranteed, should not describe the helper as a Kenya employee, and should not hide the fact that the family is funding the trip. Its job is to remove ambiguity.

Evidence problem: UAE residence is treated as nationality

Kenya eTA eligibility depends on the traveller’s own passport and any applicable exemption or special rule, not simply on UAE residence. A domestic helper’s UAE visa can still help the file because it shows lawful UAE residence and a reason to return, but it does not replace the nationality check on Kenya’s official eTA eligibility page (Kenya eTA eligibility page).

This point is especially important for a Kenya tourist visa for a housemaid in the UAE when the employer is Emirati or a UAE resident of another nationality. UAE MoFA’s Kenya travel page, aimed at UAE nationals, says travellers should arrange early and inquire about requirements to issue a visa for domestic workers ahead of travel time (UAE MoFA Kenya travel requirements). That is useful travel advice, but it does not give a Kenya nanny-document checklist and does not cover every expatriate household or helper nationality.

If the helper’s UAE residence is close to expiry, the application should avoid pretending the return position is stronger than it is. Provide what is true: current UAE residence evidence, renewal context if available, return ticket, and a sponsor explanation. The same document-risk thinking appears in other dependent files, such as sponsor-funded Schengen applications for a dependent spouse from the UAE, but the Kenya decision must still follow Kenya’s own rules.

Evidence problem: arrival documents are forgotten after eTA approval

An approved eTA is not the end of the nanny’s travel file. Kenya’s Directorate of Immigration Services states that travellers arriving in Kenya must appear in person before an immigration officer with a valid passport or travel document and must present for biometric capture. For foreign nationals, officers may require the eTA, return or onward ticket, enough funds for the stay, hotel booking or host address and phone contacts, and itinerary while in Kenya (Kenya arrival procedures).

For a helper travelling with a UAE family, carry a compact arrival folder, printed or saved offline. It should include the approved eTA if required, passport, return ticket, hotel or host details, family itinerary, travel insurance, sponsor letter, sponsor ID copy, and a funds explanation or sponsor bank evidence if the family is paying. Do not overload the helper with irrelevant private papers, but do ensure she can answer basic questions consistently: who she is travelling with, where she will stay, how long she will remain in Kenya, and when she returns to the UAE.

The sponsor-evidence consistency map

Before submitting or travelling, check the file by evidence problem rather than by document name:

  • Identity: the helper’s name, passport number and nationality match the eTA form, ticket, insurance and accommodation record.
  • UAE context: residence visa or Emirates ID details, employment evidence and sponsor identity point to the same household.
  • Trip purpose: the letter, itinerary and hotel bookings show temporary tourism with the family, not employment in Kenya.
  • Funding: the sponsor letter and financial evidence explain who pays for transport, accommodation, meals, insurance and local costs.
  • Return plan: the return ticket, UAE residence evidence and family travel dates support the same exit story.
  • Consent: if the family completes the eTA, the helper’s consent is documented, in line with Kenya’s eTA declaration.

If evidence is missing, do not replace it with exaggerated statements. If there is no formal contract available, use lawful alternative employment or sponsorship evidence. If bank statements are sensitive, provide only what is necessary and redact unrelated details where appropriate, while keeping the financial point readable. If the accommodation is not yet final, wait until the booking or host address is clear before filing, because Kenya can ask for accommodation and itinerary evidence on arrival.

A well-prepared Kenya eTA for a nanny from Dubai is not about inventing a special nanny visa category. It is about making a sponsored tourism trip understandable: the helper’s identity, UAE residence, employment connection, funding, accommodation, itinerary and return plan should all tell the same story. Frequently Asked Questions

The official Kenya pages reviewed list general eTA types and do not show a separate nanny or housemaid visitor category. The helper’s own passport nationality and trip purpose must be checked; UAE residence alone does not decide the requirement.

Only upload it if the live eTA form asks for it or provides a suitable additional-document field. The contract can be prepared as optional supporting evidence, but the official pages reviewed do not prove it is mandatory for every tourist eTA nanny case.

Kenya’s eTA declaration says a person applying on behalf of another person is responsible for obtaining that person’s consent. The family should therefore keep clear written consent from the helper if it prepares or submits the application for her.

She should be ready to show her passport, approved eTA if required, return or onward travel evidence, funds or sponsor-funded evidence, hotel or host details, and itinerary. Kenya’s immigration authority says officers may request these items from foreign nationals on arrival.
