Japan Bank Balance Calculator
How much money do you need in your bank account for a visa?
How Bank Balance is Calculated
Japan Visa Bank Balance Requirements
This calculator uses a dual-tier system developed from Oki-Doki's experience with hundreds of visa applications:
- Tier 1 — Paper Minimum
- The official embassy minimum amount. Formula: daily rate × number of days × number of travelers. Applying with only this amount carries a high rejection risk.
- Tier 2 — Expert Recommendation
- The actual amount at which visas get approved — approximately 2x higher than the paper minimum. Based on analysis of application outcomes processed by Oki-Doki. Exchange rate: 1 EUR = 0.0245 AED.
Daily Rates by Accommodation Type
| Accommodation | Paper Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-paid hotel | ¥/day (AED 800) | AED 1500–2000/day |
| No pre-paid hotel | ¥/day (AED 1200) | AED 2000–2800/day |
| Staying with friend | ¥/day (AED 500) | AED 1000–1500/day |
Statement & Salary Requirements
- Bank Statement Period
- 3-month bank statement required. Must be dated within 2 weeks of your application. Must be from your personal account, not joint or corporate.
- Minimum Salary
- Paper minimum: AED 8,000/month (¥1,000). Recommended: AED 15,000/month (¥2,500). Japan has no fixed daily requirement — consulate checks overall financial stability, regular salary deposits, and balance sufficient for the trip
Bank Statement Preparation Timeline

- −2 moAvoid sudden large deposits or unusual transactions
- −1 moPrepare detailed day-by-day Schedule of Stay (required by consulate)

We specialize in reapplications. Our experts analyze the rejection reason and prepare a strengthened application.
Japan Visa Rejection Reasons
We prevent every one of these before you even submit
Risk
The Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai has zero tolerance for incomplete applications — submitting incorrect or missing documents leads to IMMEDIATE REJECTION or TERMINATION. Common failures: unsigned application form, photo stapled instead of glued, bank statement older than 10 days, employment letter without wet company seal, missing Emirates ID copy, or documents not in English/Japanese. The consulate does not request additional documents — they reject and return the entire package.
How We Prevent This
We use the exact VFS Japan Dubai checklist (updated Nov 2025) and verify every document against consulate requirements before submission. Employment letters are formatted with wet signature, company seal, and addressed to the Consul-General. Bank statements are checked for freshness (within 10 days), IBAN, and account holder details. Nothing is submitted until 100% complete.
Risk
Japan assesses overall financial stability, not a fixed daily amount. The consulate examines your 3-month e-statement for: regular salary deposits, consistent balance trajectory, and absence of suspicious activity. Red flags include sudden large deposits before application ("funds parking"), balance that doesn't match your declared salary, recently opened bank accounts with less than 3 months of history, or statements missing account holder name and IBAN. Low balance relative to trip duration signals inability to support yourself in Japan.
How We Prevent This
We review your 3-month banking history and assess whether it demonstrates genuine financial stability. If your balance is borderline, we advise supplementing with employer-sponsored company bank statements, credit card statements with high limits, or fixed deposit certificates. We ensure statements are electronically generated, include all required details (name, IBAN, account number), and are dated within 10 days of submission.
Risk
Japan uniquely requires a detailed day-by-day Schedule of Stay (日程表) — this is the document most applicants from Dubai get wrong. It must list: each day's activities, accommodation for every night (hotel name, full address, phone number), and transportation between cities. Vague entries like "sightseeing in Tokyo" or missing hotel contacts for even one night result in rejection. Business applicants who write "visiting company" without specifics are also denied. The consulate cross-checks your itinerary against flight dates and hotel bookings.
How We Prevent This
We prepare a professionally structured Schedule of Stay using the official consulate template. Every day is mapped with specific activities, verified hotel addresses and phone numbers, and realistic transportation plans. For multi-city trips, we ensure the timeline is logical. The itinerary matches your flight dates, hotel bookings, and visa application period exactly.
Risk
The consulate must be convinced you will return to the UAE after your trip. Applicants with weak UAE ties face heightened scrutiny: short employment history (under 6 months), recently issued UAE residence visa, no property or vehicle ownership, no family dependents in UAE, or working in a low-stability sector. Single applicants with new jobs and no prior international travel are the highest-risk profile. Your UAE residence visa must also be valid 30 days after return from Japan — near-expiry visas raise doubts.
How We Prevent This
We build a comprehensive ties-to-UAE dossier: active employment contract with remaining duration, salary certificate, company trade license, property or tenancy contract, vehicle registration, family documentation, and ongoing financial commitments. For weaker profiles, we strengthen the cover letter explaining your UAE roots and obligations that compel your return.
Risk
Submitting fake or tampered documents is the most severe violation — resulting in immediate rejection and a potential long-term or permanent entry ban to Japan. The consulate verifies: employment letters against trade license records, bank statements against account formats, invitation letters against Japanese company registrations, and hotel bookings against actual reservations. Common fraud attempts: photoshopped bank balances, fake employment letters from non-existent companies, forged invitation letters, and purchased hotel bookings cancelled after submission.
How We Prevent This
We work exclusively with authentic documents. Every employment letter is verified against the company trade license, bank statements come directly from the applicant's bank, and hotel bookings are real and maintained through the visa decision. We never submit fabricated documents — the risk of a permanent ban far outweighs any short-term gain.
Risk
Any history of visa rejections (Japan or other countries), overstays, deportations, or immigration violations significantly impacts your application. The Japanese consulate maintains a database of previous applicants and cross-references with other embassies. A prior Japan visa rejection is flagged in the system — reapplying with the same profile will likely yield the same result. Undisclosed previous rejections are treated as deception if discovered, leading to harsher consequences.
How We Prevent This
We conduct a thorough review of your complete visa history before submission. If you have prior rejections, we analyze the likely causes, prepare a restructured application demonstrating changed circumstances, and address the issue proactively. Full disclosure with honest explanation is always better than concealment. We recommend optimal reapplication timing based on the severity of the previous denial.
Risk
Applying under the wrong visa category is an automatic rejection. Common mistakes from Dubai: applying for a tourist eVisa when the actual purpose is business meetings or visiting relatives (these require a sticker visa with different checklists). Attending conferences on a tourism visa, visiting a Japanese spouse without proper family visa documentation, or planning to work remotely while on a tourist visa. The consulate cross-references your stated purpose against your supporting documents — a business invitation in a tourism application immediately raises flags.
How We Prevent This
We assess your actual travel purpose during the initial consultation and select the correct visa category. Tourism, Business Affairs, Visiting Relatives, and Domestic Helper each have separate checklists with different document requirements. We ensure your application form, cover letter, supporting documents, and itinerary all align with the chosen visa type. If your trip has mixed purposes, we advise on the primary classification.
Risk
Even minor inconsistencies in your name, dates, or personal details across different documents trigger rejection. The consulate compares your passport name against: application form, Emirates ID, bank statement, employment letter, hotel booking, and flight reservation. Common issues: name spelled differently on Emirates ID vs. passport (e.g., "Mohammed" vs. "Muhammad"), middle name present on one document but not another, date of birth mismatch, passport number typo on the application form, or employer name not matching the trade license exactly.
How We Prevent This
We cross-reference every personal detail across all documents before submission. Name spelling, date of birth, passport number, employer name — every field is verified for exact match. If there are legitimate differences (e.g., Emirates ID has a different transliteration than passport), we prepare an explanatory note. The application form is reviewed character-by-character against the passport before signing.
Risk
Japan has strict photo requirements that differ from other countries. The photo must be exactly 45×35mm, on white background, taken within the last 6 months, and GLUED (not stapled) to the application form. Common rejections: photo printed on regular paper instead of photo paper, selfies or filtered images, background not pure white, face too small or too large in frame, wearing glasses (some consulates reject this), shadows on face or background, photo cropped from a group picture, or using an old photo from a previous visa application.
How We Prevent This
We verify every photo against Japan consulate specifications before submission. Size, background color, face proportion (70-80% of frame), print quality, and recency are all checked. We advise on professional photo studios in Dubai that know the exact Japan visa specifications. The photo is carefully glued — never stapled — to the application form as required.
Risk
Only UAE RESIDENTS with a valid residence visa can apply for a Japan visa from Dubai. People on UAE tourist/visit visas, transit passengers, and those with cancelled or expired residence visas are NOT eligible — these applications are immediately returned. Additionally, applying at the wrong office (e.g., Abu Dhabi resident applying at VFS Dubai, or Dubai resident applying at Abu Dhabi Embassy) results in rejection. Applications submitted more than 90 days before travel or less than 2 weeks before the flight are also refused outright.
How We Prevent This
We verify your UAE residency status and visa validity during intake. If your residence visa is about to expire, we advise renewing it before applying. We confirm you fall within the correct jurisdiction (Dubai VFS vs. Abu Dhabi Embassy) based on your Emirates. We also plan submission timing carefully — within the 90-day window but no later than 2 weeks before your flight.
Every Oki Doki application goes through our double-review system. With us, your chances of Japan visa approval are maximized.
Japan Visa FAQ
Japan visa applications are submitted at VFS Global Dubai for residents of Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. Abu Dhabi residents apply at the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi. Requirements differ slightly between the two locations. Oki Doki manages applications at both centers and can submit on your behalf as an authorized representative, so you don't need to visit VFS yourself.
Yes. Japan has strict NOC (Certificate of Employment) requirements. The document must be on official company letterhead, addressed to the Consul-General of Japan in Dubai, state your position, monthly salary, purpose of travel, and include a financial undertaking. If electronically generated, it must state 'Electronically Generated.' Wet-ink signatures and company stamps are required if the document is printed. Scanned physical signatures are acceptable.
Japan requires 3 months of UAE bank statements. The statement must be electronically generated, not older than 10 days from the application date, and show your name, IBAN, and account number. It should reflect regular salary deposits, consistent balance, and no suspicious activity. Japanese consulate reviewers are thorough in financial assessment.
Japan has no officially published minimum balance. The consulate evaluates overall financial stability across 3 months. From our experience processing thousands of Japan applications from UAE: aim for AED 15,000+ as a closing balance for a 10-day trip. The key is consistent salary credits, stable balance, and no sudden large deposits immediately before application.
Japan's consulate fee is FREE for most nationalities applying from the UAE. You only pay the VFS Global service fee: approximately AED 100–110 (including VAT). For multiple-entry visas, the consulate fee is AED 160 for non-Indian nationalities. Indian nationals pay AED 20 for all visa types. UAE citizens can enter Japan visa-free for 90 days as of July 2025.
Japan accepts provisional flight reservations (not purchased tickets) and hotel booking confirmations (not necessarily paid in full). All accommodation for each night must be accounted for in your Schedule of Stay. For Chinese nationals, only hotel bookings are accepted — Airbnb is not. For other nationalities, Airbnb with full property details is acceptable. We provide flight and hotel reservations as part of our service.
Standard processing at VFS Dubai is 8–10 working days from submission. If documents need additional review, it can extend to 3–4 weeks. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before travel. Important: VFS does not accept applications if your flight is within 2 weeks, and you can only apply within 90 days of your planned Japan travel.
Yes, but conditions apply. Multiple-entry tourist visas are available for employed individuals with 'sufficient financial capacity.' You need a letter explaining future Japan travel plans, previous travel history, and a Multiple Entry Request Letter. The consulate decides the duration (1–3 years, 30 days per trip). Note: the consulate may still issue a single-entry visa even if you request multiple entry.
Your original Emirates ID must be presented at the VFS counter for verification. A clear color copy of both sides of your Emirates ID must also be submitted as part of the document set. The VFS staff verify your identity against the original at the time of submission.
Yes. For a Japan business sticker visa, your employment certificate must specifically address the business purpose of travel and include a financial undertaking. For business visits, additional documentation from the Japanese host company (invitation letter, conference registration, or meeting confirmation) is required alongside the UAE employer NOC.
Japan visa photos must be: 45×35 mm, recent (within 6 months), in color, plain white background, front-facing, no glasses, neutral expression. The photo must be glued to the application form (not stapled). Two photos are required. Photos must be clear and in focus — blurry or low-quality images are rejected.
Japan has an eVisa system for tourism purposes (single entry, up to 15 days stay, valid 3 months). The eVisa form is completed online, but since August 2024, all applications including eVisa must be physically submitted at VFS Dubai — you cannot submit entirely online. We handle the eVisa application and submit it at VFS on your behalf.
Yes. The Schedule of Stay (日程表) is a mandatory document unique to Japan visa applications. It is a detailed day-by-day itinerary listing your daily activities, accommodation for each night (hotel name, address, and phone number), and transportation plans. A vague or incomplete itinerary is one of the top rejection reasons. We prepare a professionally structured Schedule of Stay using the official consulate template.
Japan requires your UAE residence visa to be valid for at least 30 days after your return from Japan. However, from our experience, very short validity raises red flags — the consulate may question whether you will return to the UAE. We recommend having at least 6 months of UAE visa validity for the strongest Japan application.
Unlike Schengen visas, Japan does NOT officially require travel insurance for a tourist visa application. However, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance and include a real insurance policy in our service package. Japan has very high medical costs — a simple hospital visit can cost ¥30,000–50,000 (AED 750–1,250). Insurance also strengthens your application by showing you are a responsible traveler.
Yes. Students can apply for Japan tourist visas with parent/guardian sponsorship. Required: UAE university enrollment letter, parent's employment letter and 3-month bank statement, NOC from both parents (original signatures), school permission letter, and standard documents. The parent's financial capacity is the key factor for student applicants.
Common rejection reasons for Japan from the UAE: incomplete documents, insufficient financial proof, weak UAE ties (short residency, unstable employment), vague Schedule of Stay, near-expiry UAE visa, and inconsistencies between documents. There is no mandatory waiting period to reapply. We offer a free consultation to review your case before reapplying.
Yes. Japan accepts electronically generated bank statements with digital authentication features such as QR codes. The statement must clearly show your name, IBAN, account number, and not be older than 10 days from the application date. Fully electronic statements without authentication features are not accepted.
Yes. A Japan business sticker visa for tech conference attendance in Tokyo requires: Certificate of Employment from UAE employer (with business purpose stated), invitation letter from the Japanese conference organizer or host company, conference registration or schedule, standard UAE documents. Tokyo is a major global tech hub — business visa applications for conferences are common and well-supported.
Yes. Children traveling during UAE school term time require NOCs from both parents with original wet signatures, and a school NOC if during term time. If the child is traveling as part of a school trip, a letter from the school with consent confirmation and participant list is required. For children traveling with only one parent, an NOC from the non-traveling parent is mandatory.

Complete Guide to Japan Visa from UAE — 2025/2026
Japan Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
UAE residents who are not Emirati nationals need a visa to visit Japan. Since August 2024, all Japan visa applications from Dubai are processed exclusively through VFS Global at Wafi Mall. The Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai no longer accepts direct submissions (except diplomatic passports). UAE nationals (Emirati passport holders) enjoy visa-free entry for up to 90 days since July 2025. This guide covers everything non-UAE-national residents need to know about applying for a Japan visa from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
All expatriate residents holding passports from India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Russia, CIS countries, China, and most other nationalities require a visa. You must hold a valid UAE residence visa (not a visit or tourist visa) to be eligible to apply. Residents on cancelled, expired, or visit visas cannot apply.
Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah residents apply at VFS Global Japan Visa Application Centre in Dubai (Wafi Mall, Level 2, Falcon Phase 2). Abu Dhabi residents apply at the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi. Requirements differ slightly between the two jurisdictions. Oki Doki handles applications for all emirates — both Dubai VFS and Abu Dhabi Embassy submissions. Regardless of where you live in the UAE, we manage the entire process for you.
Types of Japan Visa Available from UAE
Japan offers several visa categories for UAE residents. Choosing the wrong type is a common rejection reason, so understanding the differences is critical before applying.
The Japan eVisa is an electronic visa for tourism and sightseeing only. No physical sticker in your passport — you show a "Visa Issuance Notice" on your smartphone at Japan immigration. Valid for 3 months from issuance, allowing a single entry with a stay of up to 15 days (consulate decides the exact duration). The application form is filled online but documents must still be physically submitted at VFS Dubai. Not available for business trips or visiting relatives.
The traditional paper visa stamped in your passport. Required for: business meetings, conferences, market research, visiting friends or relatives in Japan, and tourism if you prefer a physical visa. Allows stays up to 90 days. The consulate determines the exact duration based on your itinerary and supporting documents.
Available for employed individuals with "sufficient financial capacity" and a legitimate need for repeated Japan visits. Valid for 1 to 3 years with stays up to 30 days per trip. Requires additional documents: a letter explaining future travel plans to Japan, previous travel history, and a Multiple Entry Request Letter. Important: the consulate may issue a single-entry visa even if you request multiple entry.
For business meetings, contract signing, conferences, market research, after-sales service, and cultural/sports exchanges. Requires an invitation letter from a Japanese company or organization stating the purpose and activities in detail. The inviting company must provide certified copies of their incorporation registers and a Letter of Guarantee if covering expenses.

Japan Visa Fees from Dubai — 2025/2026
Japan visa fees are among the lowest of any major destination. The consulate fee is FREE (AED 0) for most nationalities applying for single-entry tourist visas. This is unique compared to Schengen (€80), UK (£100+), or USA ($185).
Single Entry eVisa: AED 75 consulate fee + AED 110 VFS service fee. Single Entry Sticker (tourism): AED 75 consulate fee + AED 110 VFS service fee. Multiple Entry Visa: AED 160 consulate fee + AED 110 VFS service fee. Indian nationals: AED 20 for all visa types. Gratis countries: AED 0 consulate fee. VFS service fee (AED 100–110 including 5% VAT) is payable by all applicants.
Full document structuring and review. Visa application form completion. Round-trip flight reservation (for visa purposes). Hotel booking confirmation (for visa purposes). Japan Visa Processing Time from UAE
Standard processing takes 8–10 working days from document submission at VFS Dubai, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and Japanese holidays. However, processing can extend to 3–4 weeks if documents require additional review, during peak travel seasons (cherry blossom, Golden Week), or if the application is referred to Tokyo for verification.
You can only apply within 90 days of your planned travel to Japan — applications submitted earlier are rejected. VFS Dubai does not accept applications if your flight is scheduled within 2 weeks from the application date. Recommended timeline: apply 3–4 weeks before travel. For cherry blossom season (late March–April) and Golden Week (late April–May), apply 4–6 weeks in advance due to high volume.
After submission, VFS provides a tracking reference number. You can check status on the VFS Global website or contact their call center. Passport collection is from VFS Dubai. Oki Doki clients receive real-time WhatsApp updates on their application status.
Japan Visa Financial Requirements — Bank Statement Guide
Unlike Schengen countries, Japan does not set a fixed daily financial requirement (e.g., €65/day for France). Instead, the consulate assesses your overall financial stability from 3 months of bank statements. They look for regular salary deposits, consistent balance, and absence of suspicious activity.
There is no official minimum, but from our experience processing thousands of Japan visa applications from Dubai: aim for AED 15,000+ on your bank statement for a 10-day trip. This should reflect your genuine financial profile — not a sudden deposit. The consulate is checking whether you can comfortably afford the trip and your daily life in Japan, not whether you meet a checkbox amount.
Must be an electronically generated e-statement (not manual printout). Must be not older than 10 days from the application date — this is strictly enforced. Must show account holder full name, IBAN, account number, and 3 months of transaction history. Personal salary account only (not company account for tourist visa). The consulate reserves the right to request additional bank statements.
Sudden large deposits before applying ("funds parking") — the most common financial rejection trigger. Balance that does not match your declared salary level. Recently opened bank account with less than 3 months history. Missing IBAN or account holder name on the statement. Overdrafts, negative balances, or unexplained large withdrawals. Crypto exchange transfers — consulates flag these.
Schedule of Stay (日程表) — The Document Most Applicants Get Wrong
The Schedule of Stay is a mandatory document unique to Japan visa applications and the single most common source of errors from Dubai applicants. It is a detailed day-by-day itinerary that the consulate uses to verify your travel purpose and cross-reference against your flight dates and hotel bookings.
Every day of your trip must be accounted for: date, daily activities (specific — not "sightseeing"), accommodation for each night (hotel name, full address, phone number), and transportation between cities. The official template is available on the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai website and must be used.
Writing vague activities like "tourism" or "exploring Tokyo" without specifics. Missing hotel contact number for even one night. Itinerary dates not matching flight dates. Unrealistic travel plans (e.g., Tokyo to Hokkaido and back in one day). Not accounting for travel time between cities. Business applicants writing "visiting company" without meeting details.
eVisa vs Sticker Visa — Which One Should You Choose?
Since December 2025, Japan eVisa is available for UAE residents applying for tourism. However, the sticker visa remains necessary for many situations. Here is how to decide.
Your trip is purely for tourism or sightseeing. You are comfortable showing a digital visa on your phone at immigration. You are traveling by air (eVisa does not cover entry by land or unscheduled sea transport). You need a single entry only. You are not a Chinese, Russian, or CIS national (these nationalities have additional submission requirements).
Your trip involves business meetings, conferences, or market research. You are visiting friends or relatives in Japan. You need a multiple-entry visa. You want a physical visa stamp in your passport for future visa applications (some countries look at previous stamps). You are a Chinese national (additional restrictions on eVisa accommodation bookings).
Best Time to Visit Japan from UAE
Japan has four distinct seasons, each offering a unique experience. Your timing affects both the trip quality and visa processing workload.
The most popular time for UAE residents to visit Japan. Cherry blossoms peak around late March in Tokyo and early April in Kyoto. Expect: high demand for flights and hotels (book 2–3 months ahead), longer visa processing times due to volume, and the most iconic Japan experience. Apply for visa in February for March/April travel.
Stunning red and gold leaves across Kyoto, Nikko, and Hakone. Pleasant temperatures (15–20°C). Lower tourist volume than cherry blossom season. Excellent for photography and temple visits.
Perfect for skiing in Hokkaido (Niseko, Furano) and the Japanese Alps. Christmas illuminations in Tokyo. Onsen (hot spring) season. Lower prices for flights from Dubai (except New Year period).
Festival season — fireworks festivals (hanabi), Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, Nebuta in Aomori. Hot and humid (30–35°C). Rainy season (tsuyu) in June. Best for Hokkaido, which stays cool. Climbing season for Mount Fuji (July–August only).
Japan Travel Budget — What to Expect
Japan is often perceived as expensive, but smart planning makes it very affordable. Here is a realistic daily budget breakdown for UAE residents visiting Tokyo and Kyoto.
Budget travel: AED 400–600/day (hostels, convenience store meals, public transport). Mid-range: AED 800–1,200/day (3-star hotels, casual restaurants, JR Pass transport). Comfortable: AED 1,500–2,500/day (4-star hotels, quality dining, taxis, activities). Key costs: JR Pass 7-day (¥50,000/~AED 1,250 — covers all bullet trains), Tokyo Metro day pass (¥600/~AED 15), meal at restaurant (¥800–2,000/~AED 20–50), temple entry (¥300–1,000/~AED 8–25).
Buy a JR Pass before arriving — saves thousands on Shinkansen (bullet train) tickets. Use IC cards (Suica/Pasmo) for city transport. Eat at convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) — surprisingly high quality. Visit free attractions: Meiji Shrine, Senso-ji Temple, Imperial Palace East Gardens. Book pocket WiFi or eSIM in advance (cheaper than airport).
