How the Score is Calculated
Spain Visa Approval Assessment Methodology
Our calculator analyzes 8 key factors that directly influence Spain embassy decisions. The database covers 82+ nationalities, each with an individual approval coefficient based on published visa statistics. Spain difficulty rating: Easy (2/5). Each factor carries an individual weight that reflects real-world consulate decision-making patterns.
How the Weighted Scoring System Works
Each factor is scored from 0 to 100 points based on your answer. That score is then multiplied by the factor's weight (importance percentage). Your final score is the sum of all weighted scores, adjusted for the country's difficulty level.
The 8 Factors Explained
Country Difficulty Adjustment
The final score is adjusted by Spain's strictness level (2/5). Countries with high strictness (4–5) apply an additional deduction to the final score, as their consulates impose stricter documentation and evidence requirements. Countries with low strictness (1–2) apply no additional deduction.
Result Categories
Important: The calculator is based on published visa statistics and expert experience from processing thousands of applications from the UAE. It does not guarantee an outcome — the final decision always rests with the consular officer. Use the result as a guide for preparing your documentation.

Spain Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
Spain — Europe's second most visited country with over 85 million tourists annually — is one of the most popular and accessible Schengen visa destinations from the UAE. Spain has one of the highest Schengen approval rates from UAE applicants, making it an excellent choice for first-time Schengen applicants. A critical operational fact: Spain uses BLS International as its visa processing centre in the UAE — NOT VFS Global. This is the most important distinction to know before planning your Spain visa application.
Who Needs a Spain Visa from UAE?
All non-Emirati UAE residents from visa-required nationalities require a Schengen visa. UAE nationals (Emirati passport holders) enter Spain visa-free for up to 90 days. EU/EEA family members of EU citizens apply under a different (free) category. A valid UAE residence visa is mandatory — the UAE visa must have at least 1 month validity from the visa expiry date at time of application.
BLS International — Not VFS Global
Spain is one of the few major Schengen countries that uses BLS International (not VFS Global) for UAE visa processing. BLS has two centres in the UAE: Dubai at I Rise Tower, 27th Floor, Barsha Heights (Tecom) and Abu Dhabi at Tamouh Tower, 13th Floor, Al Reem Island. Critical BLS policy: online fees paid are strictly non-refundable, rescheduling is NOT available — you must cancel (forfeiting the fee) and rebook with a fresh payment. Choose your appointment date carefully. Appointments must be booked by the applicant directly — third-party appointment bookings are rejected.
Types of Spain Visa Available from UAE
Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C) — Tourism, Business, Family
Allows up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries. Valid for: Barcelona and Madrid tourism, Costa Brava/Costa del Sol beaches, Andalusia exploration, business meetings, family visits, sports events (LaLiga football, MotoGP Valencia, Roland Garros-adjacent travel), festivals (La Tomatina, San Fermín, Semana Santa). Spain's high approval rate from UAE makes it the most popular first Schengen visa choice.
Multiple Entry Visa — Frequent Travellers
The Spanish Consulate grants multi-entry visas (1–5 years) to UAE residents with established Schengen travel history and demonstrated ongoing need. Regular UAE-based business visitors to Spain (particularly to Barcelona's tech and design industry, Madrid's financial sector, and Spanish real estate market) frequently qualify. Include a multi-entry request in your cover letter with supporting documentation.
Transit Visa
Nationalities requiring an airport transit visa (ATV) to transit through Spain's international airports (Madrid Barajas, Barcelona El Prat) need to apply at BLS. Check your nationality requirements before booking connecting flights through Spain.
Document Checklist — Official BLS Spain (Tourism) Checklist
The following matches the official BLS Spain checklist-TOURISM.pdf. Spain has specific formatting requirements that differ from VFS countries.
Core Documents — All Applicants
Application form in English or Spanish, signed and dated — form available at BLS Spain website. Passport: minimum 3 months validity from visa expiry date, not older than 10 years, minimum 2 consecutive blank pages. UAE residence visa: minimum 1 month validity from visa expiry date. Copies of all UAE residence permits issued in the last 5 years. ONE recent passport-sized photo: 35×45mm, white background, plain expression, within 6 months — ICAO specifications. Travel insurance: minimum €30,000 covering all Schengen, entire stay duration — credit card insurance NOT accepted. Flight reservation (round-trip or onward). Hotel bookings or Carta de Invitación if staying with host. Personal bank statements: last 3 months, personal account.
Employed Applicants
NOC from employer on company letterhead — CRITICAL: must include signatory's full name, position, AND Emirates ID copy (Spain specifically requires the signatory's Emirates ID — not just the company stamp). Employment contract copy (if available). 3–6 months personal bank statements. 3 months salary slips or salary certificate.
Self-Employed / Business Owners
Valid UAE trade license — must be translated into Spanish or English if in Arabic. 3–6 months company bank statements. 3 months personal bank statements. Cover letter stating business purpose in Spain. Spanish business partner invitation letter if applicable.
Dependents / Housewives
Sponsor NOC (from spouse/parent) — must state relationship, salary, and intention to finance the trip. Important: the BLS Spain Embassy does NOT accept internet bank extracts for sponsored applicants — sponsor must provide stamped original bank statements from the bank. Attested marriage or birth certificate. Sponsor passport, UAE visa, Emirates ID copies.
Minors Under 18
BOTH parents must be physically present at BLS at the time of submission — no exceptions. Signed letter of consent from both parents (both must sign, originals only — no photocopies of signatures). Both parents' original passports must be presented at BLS for verification. Child's birth certificate — translated into English or Spanish. If travelling with only one parent: official custody documentation or court order required. Children 12–18: biometric enrolment required (fingerprints).
Carta de Invitación — Spain's Unique Police-Registered Invitation
If you are staying with friends or family in Spain instead of a hotel, your Spanish host must obtain a Carta de Invitación — a formal invitation document registered with the Spanish police (Comisaría de Policía). Spain is one of the few Schengen countries requiring police registration of invitations — a simple personal letter is explicitly NOT accepted.
How to Obtain a Carta de Invitación
Your Spanish host must visit their local police station in Spain with: their national ID (DNI) or passport, proof of home address (empadronamiento), details of the invited guest (name, nationality, passport number, travel dates). The police process takes 2–4 weeks in Spain. Cost: approximately €8–12 at the police station. The issued document is then posted or scanned and sent to you for your BLS application.
Important: Carta Does NOT Replace Financial Proof
A Carta de Invitación means the host invites you — it does NOT mean the host assumes legal or financial responsibility (unlike Germany's Verpflichtungserklärung). You must still demonstrate your own financial means. However, the daily financial requirement drops to €38/day with a Carta (vs €52/day with hotel or €108/day without either).
Spain Financial Requirements — Graduated Daily Rates
Spain uses a legally defined, graduated financial requirement system based on accommodation type.
Official Daily Rates (per person)
€52/day with pre-booked hotel accommodation. €108/day without any pre-booked accommodation. €38/day with a valid Carta de Invitación from registered host. Minimum €600 per person regardless of trip length. For a 10-day Spain trip with hotel: minimum €520. Recommended UAE closing balance: AED 15,000–20,000 for a standard solo 7–10 day trip. For families: AED 30,000–50,000.
Bank Statement Rules
3 months personal account statements required. The Embassy does NOT accept internet extracts without a bank stamp for sponsored (dependent) applicants — stamped originals required. For employed applicants: e-statements with bank letterhead accepted. Joint accounts: show individual portion clearly.
Spain Visa Fees — 2026
Most nationalities: AED 388 (equivalent to €90 + Spain's surcharge). Children 6–12: AED 194. Under 6: free. EU/EEA family members: free (Schengen right). BLS service charge: AED 120. Optional BLS premium services available. All fees non-refundable — rescheduling not possible (must cancel and rebook). Processing: 3–6 weeks minimum from submission. Apply minimum 4 weeks before travel; 8 weeks during summer peak.
Special Requirements for Minors — Critical
Spain has the strictest minor requirements among all Schengen countries processed at BLS UAE.
- BOTH parents MUST be physically present at BLS at time of submission
- If one parent is outside UAE: they must sign the consent form before a Spanish Consul in their location country
- Both parents' original passports presented for verification (not just copies)
- Letter of consent with BOTH original signatures (no photocopies of signatures)
- Birth certificate translated to English or Spanish
- If one parent has sole custody: official legal documentation required
- Children 12–18: biometric fingerprint enrolment required at BLS
Appeal Process for Rejected Spain Visa Applications
Spain offers a formal appeal process — one of the more accessible among Schengen countries.
How to Appeal
Applicants who submitted through BLS Dubai or Abu Dhabi can submit a formal appeal to the Spanish Consulate to review the application. The appeal must: (1) Be addressed to the Spanish Consulate, (2) Include new supporting documents not in the original application, (3) Clearly address the specific stated refusal reason. Appeals can be submitted at BLS without a new appointment. Processing: 4–8 weeks. No fee for submitting the appeal itself. If the appeal is unsuccessful, you may reapply immediately with a new set of documents.

Complete BLS Process
