How the Score is Calculated
Japan Visa Approval Assessment Methodology
Our calculator analyzes 8 key factors that directly influence Japan embassy decisions. The database covers 82+ nationalities, each with an individual approval coefficient based on published visa statistics. Japan difficulty rating: Easy (2/5). Each factor carries an individual weight that reflects real-world consulate decision-making patterns.
How the Weighted Scoring System Works
Each factor is scored from 0 to 100 points based on your answer. That score is then multiplied by the factor's weight (importance percentage). Your final score is the sum of all weighted scores, adjusted for the country's difficulty level.
The 8 Factors Explained
Country Difficulty Adjustment
The final score is adjusted by Japan's strictness level (2/5). Countries with high strictness (4–5) apply an additional deduction to the final score, as their consulates impose stricter documentation and evidence requirements. Countries with low strictness (1–2) apply no additional deduction.
Result Categories
Important: The calculator is based on published visa statistics and expert experience from processing thousands of applications from the UAE. It does not guarantee an outcome — the final decision always rests with the consular officer. Use the result as a guide for preparing your documentation.

Japan Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
UAE residents who are not Emirati nationals need a visa to visit Japan. Since August 2024, all Japan visa applications from Dubai are processed exclusively through VFS Global at Wafi Mall. The Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai no longer accepts direct submissions (except diplomatic passports). UAE nationals (Emirati passport holders) enjoy visa-free entry for up to 90 days since July 2025. This guide covers everything non-UAE-national residents need to know about applying for a Japan visa from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
All expatriate residents holding passports from India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Russia, CIS countries, China, and most other nationalities require a visa. You must hold a valid UAE residence visa (not a visit or tourist visa) to be eligible to apply. Residents on cancelled, expired, or visit visas cannot apply.
Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah residents apply at VFS Global Japan Visa Application Centre in Dubai (Wafi Mall, Level 2, Falcon Phase 2). Abu Dhabi residents apply at the Embassy of Japan in Abu Dhabi. Requirements differ slightly between the two jurisdictions. Oki Doki handles applications for all emirates — both Dubai VFS and Abu Dhabi Embassy submissions. Regardless of where you live in the UAE, we manage the entire process for you.
Types of Japan Visa Available from UAE
Japan offers several visa categories for UAE residents. Choosing the wrong type is a common rejection reason, so understanding the differences is critical before applying.
The Japan eVisa is an electronic visa for tourism and sightseeing only. No physical sticker in your passport — you show a "Visa Issuance Notice" on your smartphone at Japan immigration. Valid for 3 months from issuance, allowing a single entry with a stay of up to 15 days (consulate decides the exact duration). The application form is filled online but documents must still be physically submitted at VFS Dubai. Not available for business trips or visiting relatives.
The traditional paper visa stamped in your passport. Required for: business meetings, conferences, market research, visiting friends or relatives in Japan, and tourism if you prefer a physical visa. Allows stays up to 90 days. The consulate determines the exact duration based on your itinerary and supporting documents.
Available for employed individuals with "sufficient financial capacity" and a legitimate need for repeated Japan visits. Valid for 1 to 3 years with stays up to 30 days per trip. Requires additional documents: a letter explaining future travel plans to Japan, previous travel history, and a Multiple Entry Request Letter. Important: the consulate may issue a single-entry visa even if you request multiple entry.
For business meetings, contract signing, conferences, market research, after-sales service, and cultural/sports exchanges. Requires an invitation letter from a Japanese company or organization stating the purpose and activities in detail. The inviting company must provide certified copies of their incorporation registers and a Letter of Guarantee if covering expenses.

Japan Visa Fees from Dubai — 2025/2026
Japan visa fees are among the lowest of any major destination. The consulate fee is FREE (AED 0) for most nationalities applying for single-entry tourist visas. This is unique compared to Schengen (€90), UK (£100+), or USA ($185).
Single Entry eVisa: AED 75 consulate fee + AED 110 VFS service fee. Single Entry Sticker (tourism): AED 75 consulate fee + AED 110 VFS service fee. Multiple Entry Visa: AED 160 consulate fee + AED 110 VFS service fee. Indian nationals: AED 20 for all visa types. Gratis countries: AED 0 consulate fee. VFS service fee (AED 100–110 including 5% VAT) is payable by all applicants.

Japan Visa Processing Time from UAE
Standard processing takes 8–10 working days from document submission at VFS Dubai, excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and Japanese holidays. However, processing can extend to 3–4 weeks if documents require additional review, during peak travel seasons (cherry blossom, Golden Week), or if the application is referred to Tokyo for verification.
You can only apply within 90 days of your planned travel to Japan — applications submitted earlier are rejected. VFS Dubai does not accept applications if your flight is scheduled within 2 weeks from the application date. Recommended timeline: apply 3–4 weeks before travel. For cherry blossom season (late March–April) and Golden Week (late April–May), apply 4–6 weeks in advance due to high volume.
After submission, VFS provides a tracking reference number. You can check status on the VFS Global website or contact their call center. Passport collection is from VFS Dubai. Oki Doki clients receive real-time WhatsApp updates on their application status.
Japan Visa Financial Requirements — Bank Statement Guide
Unlike Schengen countries, Japan does not set a fixed daily financial requirement (e.g., €65/day for France). Instead, the consulate assesses your overall financial stability from 3 months of bank statements. They look for regular salary deposits, consistent balance, and absence of suspicious activity.
There is no official minimum, but from our experience processing thousands of Japan visa applications from Dubai: aim for AED 15,000+ on your bank statement for a 10-day trip. This should reflect your genuine financial profile — not a sudden deposit. The consulate is checking whether you can comfortably afford the trip and your daily life in Japan, not whether you meet a checkbox amount.
Must be an electronically generated e-statement (not manual printout). Must be not older than 10 days from the application date — this is strictly enforced. Must show account holder full name, IBAN, account number, and 3 months of transaction history. Personal salary account only (not company account for tourist visa). The consulate reserves the right to request additional bank statements.
Sudden large deposits before applying ("funds parking") — the most common financial rejection trigger. Balance that does not match your declared salary level. Recently opened bank account with less than 3 months history. Missing IBAN or account holder name on the statement. Overdrafts, negative balances, or unexplained large withdrawals. Crypto exchange transfers — consulates flag these.
Schedule of Stay (日程表) — The Document Most Applicants Get Wrong
The Schedule of Stay is a mandatory document unique to Japan visa applications and the single most common source of errors from Dubai applicants. It is a detailed day-by-day itinerary that the consulate uses to verify your travel purpose and cross-reference against your flight dates and hotel bookings.
Every day of your trip must be accounted for: date, daily activities (specific — not "sightseeing"), accommodation for each night (hotel name, full address, phone number), and transportation between cities. The official template is available on the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai website and must be used.
Writing vague activities like "tourism" or "exploring Tokyo" without specifics. Missing hotel contact number for even one night. Itinerary dates not matching flight dates. Unrealistic travel plans (e.g., Tokyo to Hokkaido and back in one day). Not accounting for travel time between cities. Business applicants writing "visiting company" without meeting details.
eVisa vs Sticker Visa — Which One Should You Choose?
Since December 2025, Japan eVisa is available for UAE residents applying for tourism. However, the sticker visa remains necessary for many situations. Here is how to decide.
Your trip is purely for tourism or sightseeing. You are comfortable showing a digital visa on your phone at immigration. You are traveling by air (eVisa does not cover entry by land or unscheduled sea transport). You need a single entry only. You are not a Chinese, Russian, or CIS national (these nationalities have additional submission requirements).
Your trip involves business meetings, conferences, or market research. You are visiting friends or relatives in Japan. You need a multiple-entry visa. You want a physical visa stamp in your passport for future visa applications (some countries look at previous stamps). You are a Chinese national (additional restrictions on eVisa accommodation bookings).
Best Time to Visit Japan from UAE
Japan has four distinct seasons, each offering a unique experience. Your timing affects both the trip quality and visa processing workload.
The most popular time for UAE residents to visit Japan. Cherry blossoms peak around late March in Tokyo and early April in Kyoto. Expect: high demand for flights and hotels (book 2–3 months ahead), longer visa processing times due to volume, and the most iconic Japan experience. Apply for visa in February for March/April travel.
Stunning red and gold leaves across Kyoto, Nikko, and Hakone. Pleasant temperatures (15–20°C). Lower tourist volume than cherry blossom season. Excellent for photography and temple visits.
Perfect for skiing in Hokkaido (Niseko, Furano) and the Japanese Alps. Christmas illuminations in Tokyo. Onsen (hot spring) season. Lower prices for flights from Dubai (except New Year period).
Festival season — fireworks festivals (hanabi), Gion Matsuri in Kyoto, Nebuta in Aomori. Hot and humid (30–35°C). Rainy season (tsuyu) in June. Best for Hokkaido, which stays cool. Climbing season for Mount Fuji (July–August only).
Japan Travel Budget — What to Expect
Japan is often perceived as expensive, but smart planning makes it very affordable. Here is a realistic daily budget breakdown for UAE residents visiting Tokyo and Kyoto.
Budget travel: AED 400–600/day (hostels, convenience store meals, public transport). Mid-range: AED 800–1,200/day (3-star hotels, casual restaurants, JR Pass transport). Comfortable: AED 1,500–2,500/day (4-star hotels, quality dining, taxis, activities). Key costs: JR Pass 7-day (¥50,000/~AED 1,250 — covers all bullet trains), Tokyo Metro day pass (¥600/~AED 15), meal at restaurant (¥800–2,000/~AED 20–50), temple entry (¥300–1,000/~AED 8–25).
Buy a JR Pass before arriving — saves thousands on Shinkansen (bullet train) tickets. Use IC cards (Suica/Pasmo) for city transport. Eat at convenience stores (7-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart) — surprisingly high quality. Visit free attractions: Meiji Shrine, Senso-ji Temple, Imperial Palace East Gardens. Book pocket WiFi or eSIM in advance (cheaper than airport).
