How the Score is Calculated
Romania Visa Approval Assessment Methodology
Our calculator analyzes 8 key factors that directly influence Romania embassy decisions. The database covers 82+ nationalities, each with an individual approval coefficient based on published visa statistics. Romania difficulty rating: Easy (2/5). Each factor carries an individual weight that reflects real-world consulate decision-making patterns.
How the Weighted Scoring System Works
Each factor is scored from 0 to 100 points based on your answer. That score is then multiplied by the factor's weight (importance percentage). Your final score is the sum of all weighted scores, adjusted for the country's difficulty level.
The 8 Factors Explained
Country Difficulty Adjustment
The final score is adjusted by Romania's strictness level (2/5). Countries with high strictness (4–5) apply an additional deduction to the final score, as their consulates impose stricter documentation and evidence requirements. Countries with low strictness (1–2) apply no additional deduction.
Result Categories
Important: The calculator is based on published visa statistics and expert experience from processing thousands of applications from the UAE. It does not guarantee an outcome — the final decision always rests with the consular officer. Use the result as a guide for preparing your documentation.

Romania Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
Romania is a European Union member state that joined the Schengen Area on March 31, 2024 (air and sea borders) with land border Schengen accession on January 1, 2025. As of 2025, Romania is fully integrated into Schengen — a valid Schengen visa from any member state grants entry to Romania, and a Romanian Schengen visa grants access to all 29 Schengen countries. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, and Egyptian nationals apply through VFS Global UAE under the Romania Schengen category when Romania is the primary destination. UAE nationals and GCC passport holders are Schengen-exempt for 90 days in any 180-day period.
Who Needs a Romania / Schengen Visa from UAE?
Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Sri Lankan, and most Asian/African nationals require a Schengen visa to enter Romania. Applications are submitted at VFS Global Dubai (Wafi Mall, Oud Metha) or VFS Global Abu Dhabi (Corniche Plaza 2) when Romania is the primary destination or first entry point. Biometrics at VFS. If you hold a valid Schengen visa from any Schengen member state, you can enter Romania without a new application. The Romanian Embassy in Abu Dhabi processes applications from the back end.
Romania — Schengen Since 2024
Romania's full Schengen accession in 2024–2025 means all pre-2024 Romanian national visas are no longer valid. Days in Romania now count toward the 90/180-day Schengen total. The Romanian Embassy in Abu Dhabi previously processed a distinct national visa — this is now replaced by the standard Schengen Type C visa processed via VFS. Romania and Bulgaria joined Schengen simultaneously on March 31, 2024 — the two countries are often visited together on combined Balkan itineraries.
Types of Romania / Schengen Visa Available from UAE
Romania issues standard Schengen visa categories since its 2024 full accession.
Type C — Short-Stay Tourist Visa
Up to 90 days across all Schengen states. Single, double, or multiple entry. EUR 90 (~AED 360) adults; EUR 45 children 6–11; free under 6. Romania — especially Bucharest and Transylvania — has become increasingly popular with UAE travellers as a value-for-money European destination.
Type C — Business Schengen Visa
For business meetings, IT sector events (Romania has a thriving tech industry), or trade activities. Invitation from Romanian or Schengen company required. Same EUR 90 fee.
Type D — National Long-Stay Visa
For relocation to Romania for work, study, or family. Romania's low cost of living, Schengen membership, and growing tech sector make it an increasingly popular EU entry for UAE-based expats. Applied at Romanian Embassy directly.

Financial Requirements for Romania Schengen Visa from UAE
Romania is one of the most affordable Schengen destinations — daily costs in Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, and Transylvania are significantly below the Western European Schengen average.
Recommended Minimum Balances
For 7-day Romania trip: minimum AED 8,000 closing balance solo. For 14 days: minimum AED 14,000. Daily budget in Bucharest: AED 150–270 per person including accommodation (AED 120–250/night), meals (AED 35–75/day), and transport. Romania is comparable to Bulgaria in affordability — both significantly cheaper than Western Schengen states.
Red Flags
Large deposits within 30 days; zero-balance periods; non-UAE statements without translation. The affordable daily costs make Romania financially accessible for UAE applicants with moderate balances — a particularly useful option for first-time Schengen applicants.

The One Thing Everyone Gets Wrong — Romania Visa from UAE
The most common error is UAE residents not knowing that their existing valid multi-entry Schengen visa already grants entry to Romania since its 2024 full Schengen accession.
Existing Schengen Visa Covers Romania
A valid multi-entry Schengen visa from France, Germany, Greece, Poland, or any Schengen member state grants entry to Romania without a new application. Days in Romania count toward the 90/180 Schengen total. Many UAE residents planning Romania + Bulgaria itineraries unnecessarily apply for both when a single existing Schengen visa covers the entire itinerary. Oki Doki audits existing Schengen visas before recommending a new application.
Dracula Castle and Tourism Disclaimer
Bran Castle near Brasov is marketed globally as "Dracula's Castle" — though the historical Vlad the Impaler had minimal documented connection to the castle. The Bram Stoker association is a marketing construct. The castle itself (entry approximately AED 55) is genuinely impressive as a 14th-century Gothic structure regardless of the literary connection. Peles Castle (entry AED 55) near Sinaia is considered architecturally superior and historically more significant.
Financial Proof & Bank Statement Guide — Romania Schengen
3 months of UAE bank statements following standard Schengen criteria. Romania's affordable costs make this manageable for moderate-income applicants.
Statement Requirements
3 months official bank statements with consistent income. Average balance above AED 8,000. Closing balance above AED 10,000 for 7-day trip. No large unexplained transfers within 30 days.
Romania and Bulgaria Combined — Schengen Strategy
A combined Romania + Bulgaria itinerary (Bucharest + Transylvania 5 nights, Sofia + Plovdiv 4 nights, Black Sea 3 nights) is one of the best-value extended Schengen itineraries for UAE residents. Both countries are Schengen since 2024, and a single Schengen visa covers the entire trip. Apply at whichever country has the most overnight stays — typically Romania for this itinerary type.
Romania Visa Rejection Reasons from UAE
Common rejection reasons for Romania Schengen applications from UAE.
- Romania not the primary Schengen destination.
- Bank balance below AED 8,000 for 7-day trip.
- Schengen insurance not covering all 29 member states including Romania.
- Missing hotel bookings.
- Arabic documents without certified English translation.
- Application too close to travel date.
- Prior Schengen violation.
- Inconsistency between stated purpose and documents.
- Missing return flight.
- Non-compliant photographs.
Best Time to Visit Romania from UAE
Romania's seasons are distinct — spring and early autumn are ideal for Transylvania and Bucharest, summer for the Black Sea and mountain hiking, winter for skiing and festive atmosphere.
Spring — April to May
April and May are ideal for Transylvania — 12–20°C, apple orchards in bloom in Saxon villages (Sibiu, Sighisoara), and wildflower meadows in the Carpathian foothills. Bucharest's Cismigiu Gardens in spring are beautiful. Easter (Orthodox, often April) is Romania's most important cultural holiday — village celebrations in Bucovina (northern Romania) are extraordinary. UAE spring school break timing is excellent for Romania.
Summer — June to August
Romania's Black Sea coast (Mamaia, Constanta) is the summer beach destination — 28–32°C. The Carpathian mountain hiking season begins in June — Bucegi Mountains (2,500m), Fagaras Mountains (Transfagarasan highway), and Apuseni Mountains are at their best July–August. Bucharest in summer (26–32°C) is hot but vibrant. The Electric Castle Festival (July, Transylvania) is one of Europe's most spectacular music and arts festivals. UAE summer school holidays — apply 6 weeks ahead.
Autumn — September to November
September and October are superb — Transylvania in autumn foliage, the Transylvanian Saxon villages (Biertan, Saschiz, Alma Vii), and reduced crowds. The TIFF Cluj film festival (October) attracts international cinema. The Danube Delta (UNESCO, southeastern Romania) is best in September–October — pelicans migrating, boat tours through channels and lagoons.
Winter — December to February
Poiana Brasov ski resort (1,030–1,800m, near Bran Castle) is Romania's most popular ski destination — day passes approximately AED 110–160. Prahova Valley ski resorts (Sinaia, Predeal, Busteni) are 2 hours from Bucharest by train. Bucharest Christmas market (December) and New Year celebrations are excellent. Sibiu and Sighisoara Christmas markets are among Romania's most atmospheric. UAE winter school holidays — Romania is an excellent and affordable European ski option.
Top Romania Destinations for UAE Travellers
Romania's diversity — Gothic Transylvania, Baroque Bucharest, medieval Saxon villages, Carpathian mountains, and the Danube Delta — offers extraordinary value for UAE travellers.
Bucharest
Bucharest is one of Europe's most underestimated capitals — a mix of Parisian-influenced Belle Époque architecture, communist-era monumentalism, and vibrant creative districts. The Palace of the Parliament (entry AED 22, guided tour) is the world's second-largest administrative building and the heaviest building on Earth. The Romanian Athenaeum (exterior free, concerts approximately AED 40–110) is one of Europe's most beautiful concert halls. The Old Town (Centrul Vechi, free to explore) has the best bar scene in the Balkans. Cismigiu Garden (free) is central Bucharest's most beautiful park. Flight time from Dubai: 6.5 hours via connection.
Transylvania — Brasov & Sighisoara
Brasov is Transylvania's most visited city — the old town (free to explore) is encircled by medieval walls and towers. The Black Church (Biserica Neagră, entry AED 15) is the largest Gothic church in Romania. The Tampa Mountain cable car (AED 30 return) ascends above the city. Sighisoara (UNESCO) is one of Europe's only inhabited medieval citadels — cobblestone streets, coloured Renaissance towers, and Vlad the Impaler's birthplace (entry AED 15) in the Clock Tower. Bran Castle (the "Dracula Castle," entry AED 55) and Peles Castle (AED 55) are 45 minutes from Brasov.
Carpathian Mountains & Transfagarasan
The Transfagarasan highway (DN7C, open June–October) crosses the Fagaras Mountains at 2,042 metres — described by Top Gear as "the best road in the world." Balea Lake at the summit (2,034m) is accessible by cable car from the northern side (AED 50 return). The drive from Curtea de Arges to Sibiu via the Transfagarasan is approximately 160 km and takes 4–5 hours at leisure. Sinaia (1 hour from Bucharest by train) contains Peles Castle (AED 55, built 1873–1914 for Romanian royalty) — one of Europe's most beautiful royal residences.
Danube Delta & Bucovina
The Danube Delta (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve) near Tulcea is one of Europe's largest wetlands — 5,800 km² of channels, lakes, and reeds home to 350 bird species including white pelicans, great white egrets, and cormorants. Boat tours from Tulcea: approximately AED 150–275 per day. Bucovina in northern Romania contains nine extraordinary 15th–16th century painted monasteries (UNESCO) — Voronet (the "Sistine Chapel of the East"), Sucevita, and Moldovita are the most significant. Road trip from Suceava covering all painted monasteries: 2 days.
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make — Romania Visa
The most frequently recurring errors in Romania Schengen applications from UAE.
- Applying for a separate Romania Schengen visa when an existing valid multi-entry Schengen visa from France, Germany, or Greece already covers Romania entry.
- Not updating travel insurance to include Romania since its 2024 Schengen accession — verify Romania is explicitly listed.
- Using a pre-2024 Romanian national visa as travel history evidence — these expired on March 31, 2024.
- Applying at the Romania Embassy when Bulgaria has more overnight stays on a combined Romania + Bulgaria trip.
- Not counting Romania days toward the 90/180 Schengen calculation for subsequent trips.
- Not booking the Transfagarasan highway visit in advance — it is open only June–October (closes when snow falls, sometimes as early as October 1).
- Missing hotel bookings for all nights.
- Arabic documents without certified English translation.
- Applying too close to travel date.
- Overlooking the Danube Delta and painted monasteries of Bucovina — both are among Europe's most extraordinary and least-visited UNESCO sites.
