How the Score is Calculated
Malta Visa Approval Assessment Methodology
Our calculator analyzes 8 key factors that directly influence Malta embassy decisions. The database covers 82+ nationalities, each with an individual approval coefficient based on published visa statistics. Malta difficulty rating: Strict (5/5). Each factor carries an individual weight that reflects real-world consulate decision-making patterns.
How the Weighted Scoring System Works
Each factor is scored from 0 to 100 points based on your answer. That score is then multiplied by the factor's weight (importance percentage). Your final score is the sum of all weighted scores, adjusted for the country's difficulty level.
The 8 Factors Explained
Country Difficulty Adjustment
The final score is adjusted by Malta's strictness level (5/5). Countries with high strictness (4–5) apply an additional deduction to the final score, as their consulates impose stricter documentation and evidence requirements. Countries with low strictness (1–2) apply no additional deduction.
Result Categories
Important: The calculator is based on published visa statistics and expert experience from processing thousands of applications from the UAE. It does not guarantee an outcome — the final decision always rests with the consular officer. Use the result as a guide for preparing your documentation.

Malta Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
Malta is a Schengen member state — a Maltese Schengen visa grants access to all 29 Schengen countries. Malta is the smallest EU member state, an archipelago of three inhabited islands in the centre of the Mediterranean, and one of the most historically concentrated countries on Earth — three UNESCO World Heritage Sites (Valletta, the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, and the Megalithic Temples) exist within an island of just 316 km². For UAE residents, Malta is one of the most appealing Schengen destinations: 300+ days of sunshine per year, 20–25°C sea temperatures from May to November, and direct flights from Dubai. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, and Egyptian nationals apply through VFS Global UAE under the Malta Schengen category.
Who Needs a Malta / Schengen Visa from UAE?
Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, Sri Lankan, and most Asian/African nationals require a Schengen visa to enter Malta. Applications are submitted at VFS Global Dubai (Wafi Mall, Oud Metha) or VFS Global Abu Dhabi (Corniche Plaza 2) when Malta is the primary Schengen destination or first entry point. Biometrics collected at VFS. The Malta High Commission in Abu Dhabi processes applications from the back end. Malta is a popular standalone Schengen destination for UAE residents given direct air connectivity — Air Malta and flydubai operate seasonal routes from Dubai to Malta International Airport (MIA) in Luqa.
Malta — A Standalone Schengen Destination
Unlike most Schengen applications from UAE which involve multi-country itineraries requiring careful consulate selection, Malta is compelling as a standalone 5–7 day destination. Valletta (Europe's smallest capital city, EU Capital of Culture 2018), the ancient walled city of Mdina, the fortified island of Gozo, and the Blue Lagoon on Comino Island are all accessible within the archipelago. Malta's strategic location also makes it an excellent base for day trips to Sicily (1.5 hours by ferry), though such excursions leave the Schengen area since Italy is a separate Schengen state — Maltese Schengen days still apply.
Types of Malta / Schengen Visa Available from UAE
Malta issues standard Schengen visa categories through the Malta High Commission in Abu Dhabi via VFS Global.
Type C — Short-Stay Tourist Visa
Up to 90 days across all Schengen states in any 180-day period. Single, double, or multiple entry. Consulate fee: EUR 90 (approximately AED 360) for adults; EUR 45 for children 6–11; free under 6. Malta-primary applications with strong UAE employment profiles and prior Schengen history receive multiple-entry endorsements. Malta is a popular summer destination — apply 6–8 weeks ahead for July and August travel.
Type C — Business Schengen Visa
For attending business meetings or events in Malta or the Schengen area. Malta's iGaming industry (Malta is the global hub for online gaming licensing) and financial services sector generate significant B2B travel from UAE. Requires invitation from a Malta-registered company. Same EUR 90 fee.
Malta Individual Investor Programme / Residency
Malta's citizenship-by-investment and residency programs attract significant UAE interest. These are distinct from tourist visas — residency applications are processed through the Malta Residency and Visa Agency (MRVA) and require specialist advice. Oki Doki provides initial consultation on this pathway separately from standard visa services.

Financial Requirements for Malta Schengen Visa from UAE
Malta applies standard Schengen financial criteria. Malta is a mid-range Mediterranean destination — more affordable than Italy or France but more expensive than Eastern European Schengen states.
Recommended Minimum Balances
For a 7-day Malta trip: minimum AED 12,000 closing balance solo. For 14 days: minimum AED 20,000. Daily budget in Malta: AED 280–480 per person including accommodation (AED 250–500/night mid-range in Valletta or St. Julian's), meals (AED 60–120/day), and transport. Gozo island accommodation and the northern coastal resorts (Mellieha, St. Paul's Bay) are 20–30% cheaper than Valletta and St. Julian's.
Red Flags
Large deposits within 30 days; zero-balance periods; non-UAE statements without translation. Malta High Commission cross-references accommodation booking costs against bank balance — a 5-night Valletta boutique hotel booking at AED 500/night must be supported by proportional financial evidence.

The One Thing Everyone Gets Wrong — Malta Visa from UAE
The most common error UAE applicants make about Malta is confusing the ferry to Sicily (Italy) with a domestic Malta trip — and not understanding that the ferry crosses an international Schengen boundary.
Malta to Sicily Ferry — Still Schengen
The Virtu Ferries service between Valletta (Malta) and Catania or Pozzallo (Sicily, Italy) crosses an international boundary — you exit Malta and enter Italy. Both are Schengen states, so no additional visa is required for Schengen visa holders. However, your passport is stamped at the Italian port of entry and the days count toward your 90/180 Schengen total. If your Schengen visa is single-entry — valid for Malta as the first entry — using it to travel to Sicily and then returning to Malta will invalidate the visa (the first entry has been used). Always apply for a double-entry or multiple-entry Schengen visa if your Malta trip includes a Sicily ferry excursion.
Gozo Is Part of Malta — No Separate Visa
Gozo is one of Malta's islands — it is part of the Maltese territory and Schengen jurisdiction. Travelling to Gozo by the Gozo Channel Ferry (45 minutes from Ċirkewwa, northern Malta, AED 5 one way) does not involve any border crossing. Similarly, Comino Island and the Blue Lagoon are Maltese territory. The only international crossings from Malta are the Sicily ferry to Italy and any direct flights to non-Malta destinations.
Financial Proof & Bank Statement Guide — Malta Schengen
3 months of UAE bank statements following standard Schengen criteria.
Statement Requirements
3 months of official UAE bank statements with consistent income. Average balance above AED 10,000. Closing balance above AED 12,000 for 7 days. No large unexplained transfers within 30 days. Malta High Commission officers are attentive to the alignment between accommodation booking costs and bank balance — luxury Valletta boutique hotels at AED 400–600/night must be supported by proportional evidence.
Gozo vs. Valletta — Budget Strategy
For UAE applicants with moderate bank balances, a Gozo-based itinerary (ferry from Valletta, overnight on Gozo, accommodation AED 180–320/night) significantly reduces accommodation costs while providing a genuinely superior natural experience. The Victoria (Rabat) medieval citadel, the Dwejra Blue Hole, and the salt pans of Xlendi are among Malta's finest attractions and concentrated on Gozo. A mixed Valletta 3 nights + Gozo 3 nights itinerary balances the financial profile effectively.
Malta Visa Rejection Reasons from UAE
Common rejection reasons for Malta Schengen applications from UAE.
- Malta not the primary Schengen destination — if Italy or another Schengen state has more overnight stays.
- Insufficient bank balance relative to accommodation booking costs.
- Single-entry visa applied for when a Sicily ferry excursion is planned — double-entry required.
- Schengen insurance not covering all 29 member states.
- Missing hotel bookings for all nights.
- Arabic documents without certified English translation.
- Application too close to travel — 10–15 working days minimum processing.
- Prior Schengen overstay.
- Purpose inconsistent with supporting documents.
- Missing return flight booking.
Best Time to Visit Malta from UAE
Malta's Mediterranean climate means it is one of Europe's few genuinely year-round beach and cultural destinations.
Spring — April to May
April and May are arguably Malta's finest months — 18–24°C, the island is carpeted in wildflowers, and Easter (Għid il-Qawmien) is Malta's most important cultural event. The island's 365 baroque churches celebrate with extraordinary village festas, brass bands, and fireworks. Sea temperature 18–20°C — swimmable but cool. Valletta's palaces, the Knights of St. John museums, and the Baroque Film Festival (May) are all excellent in spring. UAE spring school break is excellent timing.
Summer — June to September
Malta summer is hot (30–36°C) and dry — peak beach season on the sandy beaches of Golden Bay, Mellieha Bay, and St. George's Bay in Paceville. The Blue Lagoon on Comino Island (ferry from Ċirkewwa, AED 22 return) is Malta's most famous attraction — arrive by 8 AM in July–August to avoid overwhelming day-tripper crowds. The sea reaches 26–28°C in August. The Farsons Great Malta Beer Festival (June) and Malta International Arts Festival (July) are significant cultural events. UAE summer school holidays drive strong demand — apply visas 6–8 weeks ahead.
Autumn — October to November
October and November are exceptional — 24–28°C air temperature, 24–26°C sea temperature, significantly fewer tourists than summer, and hotel rates drop 25–40%. The village festas continue into October. The Mdina Grand Prix (October, classic car race around the medieval walls of Mdina) is one of Malta's most atmospheric events. November sees the first cooler evenings but remains warm enough for outdoor dining and swimming.
Winter — December to March
Malta winter is mild by European standards (12–18°C) — no snow, occasional rain, and dramatically quiet. The fortified capital Valletta, the Three Cities (Vittoriosa, Senglea, Cospicua), and the underground Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum (UNESCO, 5,000-year-old burial site, entry approximately AED 55, booking required months ahead) are all crowd-free in winter. The Carnival in Malta (February, Valletta) is one of the Mediterranean's oldest — elaborate floats and masked balls. UAE winter school holidays are excellent for Malta's cultural winter programme.
Top Malta Destinations for UAE Travellers
Malta's small size means extraordinary concentration — Valletta, Mdina, Gozo, and Comino cover the essential highlights.
Valletta
Valletta is Europe's smallest capital city (0.8 km²) and entirely UNESCO World Heritage. The Co-Cathedral of St. John (entry AED 33) houses Caravaggio's largest painting (The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, 1608) and an extraordinary collection of Baroque art. The Grandmaster's Palace (State Rooms entry AED 22) was the seat of the Knights of St. John for 250 years. Fort St. Elmo (entry AED 18) guards the harbour entrance. The Barrakka Gardens (free) offer the best views of the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities across the water. Direct flights from Dubai to Malta International Airport: 5.5 hours on Air Malta (seasonal) and connecting via Rome or Frankfurt.
Mdina & Rabat
Mdina is Malta's fortified medieval capital — a silent city of 300 residents enclosed within 16th-century bastions on the highest point of the island. The narrow streets are entirely pedestrianised, the Baroque cathedral (entry AED 5) contains Malta's finest art collection, and the views from the bastions extend across the entire island. Immediately outside Mdina's gates, Rabat contains the Catacombs of St. Paul and St. Agatha (entry AED 11) — early Christian burial chambers dating to 300 AD. Mdina is 30 minutes by bus from Valletta.
Gozo Island
Gozo (ferry from Ċirkewwa, 45 minutes, AED 5) is Malta's smaller, quieter sister island — rugged limestone cliffs, terraced fields, and the Victoria (Rabat) medieval citadel (free to explore, spectacular views of the entire island from the ramparts). The Ġgantija Temples (UNESCO, entry AED 22) near Xagħra are older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids — dating to 3,600 BC. The Dwejra Blue Hole (free, SCUBA diving world-class) and the collapsed Azure Window rock arch site are in the dramatic western coast. Gozo has some of Malta's best restaurants — fresh fish at the Xlendi waterfront.
Comino & The Blue Lagoon
Comino is a virtually uninhabited island (population: 4) between Malta and Gozo — its Blue Lagoon, a shallow turquoise bay surrounded by white limestone cliffs, is consistently ranked among Europe's most beautiful beaches. Ferry from Ċirkewwa or Gozo: AED 22 return, 15 minutes. The lagoon is swimmable May–October. In July–August, up to 3,000 day-trippers arrive between 10 AM and 4 PM — arrive on the first ferry (7:30 AM) to experience it before crowds. The island has no cars, no hotels (one holiday complex), and no roads — explored entirely on foot. Santa Marija Bay on the eastern side of Comino is less visited and equally beautiful.
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make — Malta Visa
Most frequently recurring and preventable errors in Malta Schengen applications from UAE.
- Applying for single-entry Schengen visa when planning a Sicily ferry day trip — use of the single-entry in Malta invalidates it for re-entry from Italy; always apply for double or multiple entry.
- Arriving at the Blue Lagoon at 11 AM in August — the lagoon is shoulder-to-shoulder with day-trippers; take the 7:30 AM first ferry for 2 hours of near-solitude.
- Not pre-booking the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum — only 80 visitors are admitted per day and bookings sell out months ahead for popular periods.
- Booking a Valletta boutique hotel at AED 500/night with a bank balance of AED 10,000 — financial evidence must be proportional to accommodation costs.
- Not booking the Gozo ferry in advance for summer weekend crossings — vehicle spaces fill quickly in July–August.
- Missing hotel bookings for all nights of the Schengen trip.
- Schengen insurance not covering all 29 member states.
- Arabic documents without certified English translation.
- Applying too close to travel — 10–15 working days processing minimum.
- Missing return flight booking.
