How the Score is Calculated

India Visa Approval Assessment Methodology

Our calculator analyzes 8 key factors that directly influence India embassy decisions. The database covers 82+ nationalities, each with an individual approval coefficient based on published visa statistics. India difficulty rating: Easy (1/5). Each factor carries an individual weight that reflects real-world consulate decision-making patterns.

How the Weighted Scoring System Works

Each factor is scored from 0 to 100 points based on your answer. That score is then multiplied by the factor's weight (importance percentage). Your final score is the sum of all weighted scores, adjusted for the country's difficulty level.

Final Score = Σ (Factor Score × Factor Weight) − Country Difficulty Adjustment

The 8 Factors Explained

1.
NationalityBaseline approval coefficient for your passport. Based on published visa issuance statistics. Nationals from high-trust countries (UAE, EU, Japan) receive the highest score; countries with historically high refusal rates receive the lowest.
2.
UAE Residency DurationHow long you have lived in the UAE. 5+ years is the strongest stability signal. Under 1 year significantly increases refusal risk, as the embassy questions your intent to return.
3.
UAE Visa ValidityRemaining validity on your UAE residence visa. Schengen and UK require at least 6 months beyond your return date. Under 3 months is a critical risk factor.
4.
Travel HistoryThe most influential factor after nationality. Multiple used visas to the same country earn the top score. Visas to other developed countries (US, UK, Australia) earn a moderate score. First-time international travel is a significant negative signal.
5.
Visa RejectionsA clean record with no rejections earns the maximum score. One old rejection (2+ years ago) is a moderate negative. A recent rejection is a serious negative. Multiple rejections result in a critically low score. For USA and UK, rejections are tracked in global systems.
6.
Employment StatusStable employment at the same company for 2+ years earns the top score. Business ownership for 3+ years scores nearly as high. Freelancing and recent job changes (under 6 months) lower the score. Unemployment is a critical risk factor.
7.
Monthly SalarySalary of AED 15,000+ earns the top score. AED 5,000–7,000 is borderline. Below AED 3,000 is critically low. The embassy assesses whether you can fund the trip without breaching financial obligations.
8.
Bank Statement HealthA stable balance with gradual growth is the ideal scenario. A large recent deposit ("funds parking") is a serious red flag. A low or fluctuating balance reduces your chances.

Country Difficulty Adjustment

The final score is adjusted by India's strictness level (1/5). Countries with high strictness (4–5) apply an additional deduction to the final score, as their consulates impose stricter documentation and evidence requirements. Countries with low strictness (1–2) apply no additional deduction.

Good Chances55–74%
Moderate Chances35–54%
Challenging5–34%

Important: The calculator is based on published visa statistics and expert experience from processing thousands of applications from the UAE. It does not guarantee an outcome — the final decision always rests with the consular officer. Use the result as a guide for preparing your documentation.

Complete Guide to India Visa from UAE — 2026

India Visa for UAE Residents — Overview

India is one of the most visited destinations by UAE residents, yet the visa process catches many applicants off guard due to the distinction between the e-Visa (applied online) and the sticker visa (applied through VFS Global in Dubai or Abu Dhabi). UAE residents from Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, and several other nationalities are not eligible for India's e-Visa and must apply for the sticker visa exclusively. Even for nationalities eligible for the e-Visa (Indian-origin passport holders with OCI status are visa-exempt), understanding which route applies to you before preparing documents is critical — the document sets are entirely different.

Who Needs an India Visa from UAE?

All foreign nationals residing in UAE — regardless of their UAE residency type or duration — require a valid Indian visa to enter India unless they hold OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) status or a PIO card. Pakistani nationals cannot apply for India's e-Visa under any circumstances and must submit a sticker visa application at VFS Global Dubai or Abu Dhabi along with additional security clearance documentation. Bangladeshi nationals are eligible for e-Visa but face higher scrutiny and longer processing. Chinese nationals may apply for e-Visa (Tourist e-TV, Business e-TV, or e-Conference Visa). Filipino, Egyptian, and most Arab nationals are eligible for India's e-Visa and should use the online route for single or double-entry tourist visits. Note: e-Visa eligibility is nationality-based and does not change based on your UAE residency.

VFS Global India — Dubai & Abu Dhabi Locations

VFS Global India Dubai is located at Wafi Mall, Oud Metha, Dubai — operating Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM for submission and 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM for passport collection. VFS Global India Abu Dhabi is located at Corniche Plaza 2, Abu Dhabi — operating Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Appointments are mandatory for sticker visa applications and must be booked online at visa.vfsglobal.com/ind. Walk-in submissions are not accepted. E-Visa applicants do not visit VFS — the entire e-Visa process is completed at indianvisaonline.gov.in with no biometric collection required.

Types of India Visa Available from UAE

India offers a comprehensive range of visa categories applicable to UAE residents. The correct category must be selected at the time of application — changing visa type after submission is not possible and requires a fresh application with a new fee.

e-Visa (Tourist, Business, Medical)

India's e-Visa is available for eligible nationalities at indianvisaonline.gov.in. Tourist e-Visa (e-TV): issued for 30 days (double entry), 1 year (multiple entry), or 5 years (multiple entry) from the date of issue — not from date of first entry. Each stay is capped at 90 consecutive days for most nationalities (60 days for US/UK/Canadian nationals per entry). Business e-Visa (e-BV): 1 year, multiple entry, 180 days per stay. Medical e-Visa (e-MV): 60 days, triple entry, for patients travelling with attendants. e-Visa fee: USD 25 for 30-day; USD 40 for 1-year; USD 80 for 5-year — payable online by international credit/debit card. Processing: 72 hours standard; apply minimum 4 days before travel.

Tourist Visa (Sticker — via VFS)

The sticker Tourist Visa is required for Pakistani nationals and recommended for all nationalities when a multiple-entry visa with stays longer than 90 days is needed. Standard tourist sticker visas are issued for 6 months (double entry, 90 days per stay), 1 year (multiple entry), 5 years (multiple entry), or 10 years (multiple entry — available to select nationalities). Fee via VFS: USD 80–100 (approximately AED 294–367) depending on nationality + VFS service charge of AED 165. Pakistani nationals face additional processing charges and a mandatory security clearance process adding 4–8 weeks.

Business Visa (Sticker — via VFS)

The Business Visa sticker requires an invitation letter from an Indian company registered with the Registrar of Companies, specifying the business purpose, duration, and financial responsibility. It is issued for 1 year (multiple entry) or 5 years for established business relationships. UAE-based company owners must submit their UAE trade licence, Emirates ID, and bank statements demonstrating active business operations. This visa does not permit employment in India — consulting, meetings, and conference attendance are permitted; hands-on work or local employment violates visa conditions.

Employment Visa (Sticker — via VFS)

An Employment Visa is required for UAE residents accepting employment in India. It requires a letter from the Indian employer confirming the role, salary exceeding USD 25,000 per annum (unless exempted for certain sectors), and must be endorsed by India's Ministry of Home Affairs for senior positions. Employment visas are typically issued for 1–2 years with multiple entry and are extendable inside India at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). UAE residents applying for Indian employment must simultaneously register with the FRRO within 14 days of arrival.

Medical & Student Visa

The Medical Visa is for patients seeking treatment at recognised Indian hospitals — it requires a letter from a recognised Indian hospital confirming the appointment, treatment type, and expected duration. It is issued for 6 months or the treatment duration, whichever is shorter, with triple entry to allow exit and re-entry for treatment phases. Medical attendant visas (MED-X) for accompanying family members are issued simultaneously. The Student Visa requires admission confirmation from a recognised Indian educational institution, proof of financial support, and a health insurance certificate valid in India. Student visas are issued for the course duration and require FRRO registration within 14 days of arrival.

Document Checklist by Applicant Type

Documents for India visa applications differ significantly depending on whether you are applying for an e-Visa (online) or sticker visa (VFS). All sticker visa documents submitted at VFS Dubai must be originals or certified copies — photocopies alone are rejected at the submission counter. All documents must be in English; Hindi-language documents require a certified English translation.

(a) Core Documents — All Applicants

Every India sticker visa applicant from UAE must submit: (1) Original passport valid for minimum 6 months after intended return date from India, with at least 2 blank pages. (2) Completed India visa application form — filled online at indianvisaonline.gov.in, printed, and signed. (3) Two recent passport photographs — 51mm × 51mm, white background, face covering 70–80% of frame; India's photo specification is stricter than most countries. (4) Valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID — front and back copies required. (5) Return or onward flight itinerary (confirmed booking or agency itinerary on letterhead). (6) Proof of accommodation in India — hotel bookings, host invitation letter, or sponsor's address confirmation. (7) VFS service fee — payable at the counter separately from the consular fee. (8) For e-Visa: all of the above are submitted digitally; no VFS visit required.

(b) Employed Applicants

Salaried employees applying for India sticker visa must additionally provide: salary certificate on company letterhead addressed to VFS Global or the Indian Consulate, specifying salary in AED, designation, and years of service; last 3 months' UAE bank statements with regular salary credits; NOC from employer confirming approval of leave for the travel period; and employment contract if the salary certificate is insufficient to confirm employment nature. Bank balance minimums: AED 8,000 for a 7-day India trip; AED 14,000 for a 14-day trip. India consulate officers note that frequent travel between UAE and India (for Indian-origin UAE residents) is normal and does not require justification — only the financial adequacy is assessed.

(c) Self-Employed / Business Owners

Business owners must submit: UAE trade licence (valid and current, with English translation if in Arabic); last 6 months' business bank statements showing consistent turnover; personal bank statements for the last 3 months; a cover letter explaining the purpose of the India visit; MOA or partnership agreement for the UAE company. For business visa applicants, the Indian company's invitation letter must be on company letterhead with the company's CIN (Corporate Identity Number), signed by a director-level employee. Free zone trade licences are accepted but must include the business activity descriptions in English.

(d) Dependents / Housewives

Non-working dependents applying for India sticker visa must submit: sponsor's (husband's or parent's) passport copy, Emirates ID, and UAE residence visa; sponsor's bank statements showing AED 12,000 minimum balance for a 10-day family trip; a sponsorship letter from the sponsor confirming financial responsibility; marriage certificate (for spouses) — must be attested by UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs if issued outside UAE; children's birth certificates attested by UAE MOFA. If the dependent is travelling without the sponsor, a notarised NOC from the sponsor is additionally required.

(e) Students

Students at UAE universities or schools must submit: current enrollment certificate on institutional letterhead confirming student status, course name, and expected completion date; student ID; and bank statements from either their own account or their parent/guardian's account. If funded by a parent, the sponsorship letter and parent's employment/financial documents must accompany the application. Students applying for India Student Visa must additionally provide the admission letter from the Indian institution, fee payment proof, and academic transcripts from the current institution. Student visa applicants should note that the Indian Consulate may request an interview for long-duration student visas.

Financial Requirements for India Visa from UAE

India's consulate does not publish a fixed minimum bank balance, but VFS submission counters in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are trained to flag applications where financial documentation appears insufficient for the intended stay duration and travel purpose.

Recommended Minimum Balances by Trip Duration

For a 7-day trip to India (tourism/family visit): AED 8,000 minimum closing balance for a solo applicant; AED 14,000 for a family of three. For a 14-day trip: AED 14,000 solo; AED 22,000 for a family of three. For a 21-day or longer trip: AED 20,000 solo. These figures are calibrated to mid-range travel costs in major Indian cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore — and may be lower for travel to tier-2 cities or family-hosted stays where accommodation is provided by relatives. Bank statements must cover the last 3 consecutive months with no unexplained large deposits in the 30 days before application.

What VFS and the Indian Consulate Assess

The Indian Consulate assessment focuses on: (1) whether the applicant has sufficient funds to fund the trip independently without resorting to employment in India; (2) whether the declared purpose of travel aligns with the visa category applied for; (3) whether the applicant has strong ties to UAE (employment, family, property) that make return likely. Red flags include: account balance that drops to zero or near-zero between salary payments; a bank account opened within 60 days of application; salary certificates that do not match the balance history (e.g., AED 15,000/month salary but AED 3,000 average balance). For applicants whose Indian family will host them, a host affidavit from India notarised by a local notary and supported by proof of the host's property or residency significantly strengthens the application.

India Visa Application Process — Step by Step

The process differs for e-Visa (entirely online) and sticker visa (VFS submission). The vast majority of nationalities eligible for e-Visa should use that route for its speed and simplicity — the sticker visa process at VFS is considerably more time-intensive.

e-Visa Process (for Eligible Nationalities)

Step 1 — Visit indianvisaonline.gov.in and select the appropriate e-Visa category (Tourist, Business, Medical). Step 2 — Complete the online application form with passport details, UAE address, travel dates, and port of entry into India. Step 3 — Upload required documents: passport scan (first and last page), recent photograph meeting India's specifications, and additional documents per visa type. Step 4 — Pay the e-Visa fee online (USD 25/40/80) by international credit or debit card — Visa and Mastercard accepted; cards issued in Pakistan and certain countries may be declined. Step 5 — Receive ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) by email within 72 hours — print and carry along with your passport to the Indian port of entry. Step 6 — Entry must be through designated e-Visa ports (not all land borders qualify — check before travelling overland). No biometrics or VFS visit required for e-Visa.

Sticker Visa Process via VFS Global (Dubai / Abu Dhabi)

Step 1 — Book VFS appointment at visa.vfsglobal.com/ind — select Dubai (Wafi Mall) or Abu Dhabi (Corniche Plaza 2). Appointments often fill 5–10 days ahead during peak periods. Step 2 — Complete India visa application form at indianvisaonline.gov.in and print the confirmation page. Step 3 — Gather all required documents per your applicant category. Step 4 — Attend VFS appointment in person with original documents; biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) are collected at VFS. Step 5 — Pay VFS service charge (AED 165 approximately) + consular fee in cash or card at the counter. Step 6 — SMS and email tracking available via VFS passport tracker. Step 7 — Passport collection at VFS during collection hours OR via VFS courier service to your UAE address (additional AED 50). Step 8 — Verify all visa sticker details — name spelling, passport number, validity dates, entry count — immediately upon collection.

India Visa Fees 2026

India visa fees are standardised by the Ministry of External Affairs and collected by VFS Global with a separate service charge. The consular fee is non-refundable once the application is submitted.

  • e-Visa Tourist (30 days, double entry): USD 25 — approximately AED 92.
  • e-Visa Tourist (1 year, multiple entry): USD 40 — approximately AED 147.
  • e-Visa Tourist (5 years, multiple entry): USD 80 — approximately AED 294.
  • Sticker Tourist/Business Visa (most nationalities): USD 80 — approximately AED 294.
  • Pakistani nationals sticker visa: USD 100 + additional security processing fee — approximately AED 367 + AED 100–150 supplementary.
  • VFS Global service charge Dubai/Abu Dhabi: approximately AED 165 per application.
  • Oki Doki service fee: from AED 1,500 inclusive of document review, form completion, VFS appointment booking, biometric accompaniment, and passport collection.
  • VFS optional services: SMS updates (AED 10), courier return (AED 50), lounge premium (AED 75).
  • Refund policy: e-Visa fee is non-refundable if application is rejected or withdrawn. VFS service charges are non-refundable after biometric submission.

India Visa Processing Time from UAE — 2026

Standard processing at the Indian Consulate General in Dubai (submissions via VFS Wafi Mall) runs 3–5 working days for e-Visa and 7–15 working days for sticker visa from the date of biometric submission at VFS Global. During Diwali (October–November), Republic Day (January), and summer school holiday periods (June–August), processing extends to 3–4 weeks — apply minimum 6 weeks before travel during these windows.

  • e-Visa standard processing: 72 hours (3 calendar days) from online application submission.
  • e-Visa during peak periods (Diwali, Christmas, summer): up to 5 working days — apply minimum 1 week before travel.
  • Sticker visa standard processing: 7–15 working days from VFS biometric submission date.
  • Pakistani national sticker visa: 4–8 weeks including security clearance — apply minimum 8 weeks before travel.
  • Medical visa: 5–10 working days with complete hospital documentation.
  • Employment visa: 15–30 working days depending on Ministry of Home Affairs clearance requirement.
  • No official express processing lane exists at VFS Dubai for India sticker visa.
  • Oki Doki monitors VFS and consulate processing queues and advises applicants on optimal submission timing to avoid peak delays.

The One Thing Everyone Gets Wrong — India Visa from UAE

The single most common error UAE residents make when applying for India visas is selecting the wrong photograph specification. India's e-Visa and sticker visa have specific photograph requirements that differ from standard passport photo dimensions — and non-compliant photos cause immediate rejection of e-Visa applications and VFS counter returns for sticker applications.

India Visa Photograph Requirements — Exact Specifications

India requires a 51mm × 51mm (2 inches × 2 inches) square photograph — not the 35mm × 45mm rectangular format used for Schengen, UK, or most other visas. The face must occupy 70–80% of the frame. Background must be pure white (not cream, off-white, or light grey). Eyes must be open, looking directly into the camera, without glasses. No head coverings except for religious reasons. The photograph must be taken within the last 6 months. For e-Visa, the digital photo must be a minimum 10KB and maximum 1MB, in JPG/JPEG format only, with a minimum resolution of 350 × 350 pixels. A photograph taken for a Schengen visa application (35×45mm) submitted for India's e-Visa will cause automatic rejection at the digital validation stage — the system checks pixel dimensions.

Other Commonly Missed India-Specific Requirements

The second most frequent error is applying for an e-Visa Tourist category for a visit that is primarily a family visit — if you are staying with relatives in India, a Business or Tourist e-Visa is still appropriate, but the address declaration in the form must match reality. The third most common error is entering India through a port that is not enabled for e-Visa holders. India's e-Visa is only valid at designated entry points — 28 airports, 5 seaports, and select land borders. Applicants arriving at Amritsar land border with an e-Visa will be turned back. Oki Doki verifies all port-of-entry details at the time of e-Visa preparation.

Financial Proof & Bank Statement Guide — India Visa

India's consulate places emphasis on financial documentation quality for sticker visa applications. For e-Visa applications, financial documentation is not required at the time of online application — but immigration officers at Indian airports can ask for proof of funds at arrival.

Bank Statement Standards for VFS Submission

Bank statements for India sticker visa at VFS Dubai must be: original bank-stamped statements or official e-statements with the bank's digital watermark; issued within 30 days of the application date; covering a minimum of 3 consecutive months; and showing a closing balance of AED 8,000–14,000 depending on trip duration. The statement must show regular salary credit or business income — a lump-sum transfer from a family member's account immediately before the statement period is a red flag. Accounts with zero-balance periods within the 3-month window but adequate closing balance should be supported by a cover letter explaining the spending pattern (e.g., property payment, vehicle instalment, large family expense).

When Your Balance is Below the Recommended Threshold

If your bank balance is below the recommended minimum, the following supporting documents can compensate: a sponsorship letter from an employer confirming the trip is employer-funded; a letter from an Indian family host confirming all accommodation and expenses will be borne by them (with the host's income proof from India); property ownership documents in UAE or India showing financial stability; or a fixed deposit certificate. For UAE residents on Visit Visa (not residence visa) who are applying for India sticker visa, financial requirements are assessed more strictly as there is no employment tie to UAE — a minimum AED 20,000 closing balance is recommended.

India Visa Rejection Reasons — UAE Applicants

India visa rejections from UAE are tracked by Oki Doki across hundreds of applications annually. The following are the most frequent documented causes:

  • Wrong photograph dimensions — submitting a 35×45mm rectangular photo for India's e-Visa (requires 51×51mm square). Prevention: always use the correct 2-inch square format for India applications.
  • Pakistani nationals applying for e-Visa — Pakistan is not on India's e-Visa eligible country list. Prevention: Pakistani nationals must use the sticker visa route via VFS exclusively.
  • Insufficient travel history documentation — first-time India travellers with no prior international travel history and low bank balance face higher rejection rates. Prevention: include maximum supporting documents and a strong cover letter.
  • Mismatch between declared address in India and actual accommodation — stating a hotel address but actually staying with relatives, or vice versa. Prevention: declare exact accommodation truthfully; visiting relatives is acceptable under Tourist Visa.
  • Overstaying a previous India visa — any record of overstay on a prior India visa or e-Visa triggers automatic rejection. Prevention: strictly adhere to all prior visa validity periods; there is no waiver for overstay history.
  • Expired UAE residence visa at time of application — the UAE residence visa must be valid for minimum 6 months from the application date for VFS submission. Prevention: renew UAE residence visa before initiating India visa application.
  • Submitting e-Visa application too close to travel date — applying less than 72 hours before departure. Prevention: apply minimum 4–5 days before travel, and 2 weeks during peak periods.
  • Business visa applied for tourism — applying for business visa to visit India for tourism to get a longer validity, without a legitimate business invitation letter from an Indian registered company. Prevention: use the correct visa category; Indian immigration officers do question mismatches.
  • Incomplete form — fields left blank or marked "N/A" where actual information is required, particularly prior India visit history. Prevention: Oki Doki completes and reviews all form fields before VFS submission.
  • Photograph technical rejection — digital photo below 10KB or above 1MB for e-Visa; wrong JPEG format or background colour. Prevention: use Oki Doki's document preparation service to ensure technical compliance.

Best Time to Visit India from UAE

India's vast geography means climate varies dramatically by region and season. UAE residents — particularly Indian-origin expats visiting family — travel year-round, but the most comfortable travel conditions align with India's winter months.

Winter (October–February) — Peak Tourist Season

October through February is India's peak tourist season and the most comfortable period for visiting North India (Delhi, Rajasthan, Agra) and South India (Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka). Delhi temperatures range from 8°C to 22°C in December–January — pack a light jacket. Rajasthan (Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur) is at its most beautiful from November to February with clear skies, desert festivals (Pushkar Camel Fair in November), and manageable crowd levels at the Taj Mahal (Agra). Kerala's backwaters are excellent from October to February with dry, sunny weather averaging 28°C. This period overlaps with UAE winter school holiday (December) — book hotels and apply for visas 8–10 weeks in advance for December travel.

Spring (March–April) — Pre-Monsoon Window

March and April offer a brief pre-monsoon window with warm but not oppressively hot temperatures across most of India: Delhi 25–35°C, Mumbai 28–33°C, Bangalore 25–30°C. The Holi festival (March) is one of India's most spectacular events — celebrated most vigorously in Mathura (near Agra), Jaipur, and Delhi. March is ideal for visiting India's northeastern states (Sikkim, Meghalaya, Assam) where spring rhododendron blooms are at peak. Hill stations like Shimla, Manali, and Ooty remain pleasantly cool at 12–18°C. UAE residents travelling for Holi should book accommodation in Jaipur or Mathura 4–6 months in advance as demand is extreme during the festival week.

Summer (May–June) — Hills and South India

India's summer (May–June) brings extreme heat to the plains — Delhi regularly reaches 44–48°C, Rajasthan 48–50°C — making these regions uncomfortable for most UAE visitors despite being heat-acclimatised. The exception is India's hill stations: Shimla (15–20°C), Manali (10–20°C), Darjeeling (15–20°C), Munnar (18–24°C), and Ooty (15–25°C) are at their most accessible in May–June before monsoon. Ladakh (Leh) is best visited June–September when the mountain passes open. This period coincides with UAE school summer holidays — families from UAE prefer Kerala, the hill stations, and Goa (which becomes quieter and cheaper in pre-monsoon May).

Monsoon (July–September) — Off-Peak & Regional Beauty

India's monsoon (June–September) covers most of the country with Rajasthan and North India receiving rainfall from July–August. Goa's monsoon (June–September) brings dramatic coastline views, lower hotel rates (50–60% cheaper), and a completely different atmosphere to the busy winter beach scene. Kerala's Ayurvedic season (Karkidaka Masam, June–August) is when the most intensive and authentic Ayurveda retreats run — Kerala Ayurveda practitioners consider monsoon the ideal time for traditional treatments. Mumbai receives some of India's heaviest rainfall in July (average 600mm in July alone) — urban flooding is common. Avoid Rajasthan and Delhi in peak monsoon; prioritise Kerala, Goa, and South India if travelling July–September.

Top India Destinations for UAE Travellers

India's travel landscape for UAE residents spans from the iconic northern monuments to the tropical south and the northeastern Himalayan states. Below are the most visited regions with practical pricing in AED.

Delhi & the Golden Triangle

Delhi–Agra–Jaipur (the Golden Triangle) is India's most visited tourist circuit and the first India experience for most UAE-based non-Indian expats. Delhi's India Gate, Humayun's Tomb (entry INR 600 / AED 26), Qutab Minar (INR 600 / AED 26), Red Fort (INR 600 / AED 26), and Lotus Temple (free) fill a 2–3 day Delhi itinerary. The Taj Mahal in Agra (entry INR 1,300 / AED 57 for foreign nationals) is 3 hours from Delhi by train. Jaipur's Amber Fort (INR 500 / AED 22) and City Palace complete the circuit. Direct flights from Dubai to Delhi: approximately 3 hours; to Mumbai: 3 hours 30 minutes.

Kerala — God's Own Country

Kerala is consistently the most popular India destination for UAE-based Arab and Western expats. Alleppey (Alappuzha) houseboat stays on the backwaters range from AED 400–1,200 per night depending on the houseboat class. Munnar's tea plantation landscape (3–4 hours from Kochi) is accessible by road. Kovalam and Varkala beach resorts offer Indian Ocean coastlines with far fewer crowds than Goa. Wayanad wildlife sanctuary offers elephant and tiger sightings in dense forest. Dubai to Kochi: 3 hours direct.

Rajasthan — Palaces and Deserts

Rajasthan is India's most photographed state — the pink city of Jaipur, the blue city of Jodhpur (Mehrangarh Fort entry INR 600 / AED 26), the white city of Udaipur (Lake Palace), and the golden dunes of Jaisalmer constitute a 7–10 day dedicated circuit. The Sam Sand Dunes outside Jaisalmer offer camel safaris and overnight desert camps (AED 180–400 per person). Pushkar Lake and its ghats are one of India's most sacred Hindu sites and attract international visitors in November for the Pushkar Camel Fair. Dubai to Jaipur: 3 hours direct.

Goa — Beaches and Portuguese Heritage

Goa remains India's most international beach destination, accessible from Dubai in 3.5 hours direct. North Goa (Baga, Calangute, Anjuna) is the party and nightlife hub — beach shacks charge AED 20–40 per meal; water sports (parasailing, jet ski) cost AED 60–100 per activity. South Goa (Palolem, Agonda) is quieter and more suited to families. Old Goa's Portuguese churches (Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral) are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Goa is best visited November–February; monsoon season (June–September) brings heavy rains but dramatically lower hotel rates.

Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make — India Visa

Oki Doki's India visa processing experience across thousands of UAE-based applicants reveals a consistent set of avoidable errors:

  • Applying for e-Visa as a Pakistani national — Pakistan is excluded from India's e-Visa eligible country list. Only the sticker visa route via VFS is available.
  • Using a Schengen-format photograph (35×45mm) for India's e-Visa (requires 51×51mm square) — the e-Visa portal rejects non-compliant photos with a technical error.
  • Applying for a 30-day e-Visa for a trip lasting 35 days — the 30-day e-Visa is a double-entry visa but each stay cannot exceed 30 days; applicants must apply for the 1-year e-Visa if longer stay is needed.
  • Entering India through a non-designated e-Visa port — land borders and smaller airports not on the approved e-Visa list will turn back e-Visa holders.
  • Not carrying a printed copy of the e-Visa ETA at the airport — the ETA is required as a physical print at Indian immigration; a mobile screenshot is not consistently accepted.
  • Booking VFS appointment without first completing the online application form — VFS requires the online application reference number before an appointment can be booked.
  • Submitting sticker visa application without original documents — VFS Delhi submits require originals, not photocopies, for employment and financial documents.
  • Assuming OCI card guarantees visa-free entry — OCI cardholders do not require a visa, but the OCI card must be valid and accompanied by the current foreign passport; if the passport has changed since OCI issuance, a new OCI sticker must be obtained.
  • Not updating India address in the e-Visa form if accommodation changes — if you change hotels after submitting the e-Visa, the declared address on the form becomes inaccurate; Indian immigration may query this on arrival.
  • Applying for Medical Visa without a hospital appointment letter — the Medical Visa requires a confirmed appointment letter from a recognised Indian hospital; without it, the application is rejected at VFS submission.
