Austria Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
Residents of the UAE who are not Emirati nationals require a Schengen visa to visit Austria. Applications from all seven emirates are submitted at VFS Global centres — Dubai residents use the Wafi Mall centre, while Abu Dhabi residents submit at the Corniche Plaza VFS. The Austrian Consulate General in Abu Dhabi makes the final visa decision for all UAE applicants. UAE nationals (Emirati passport holders) enjoy visa-free access to Austria as part of the Schengen agreement.
Who Needs an Austria Schengen Visa?
All expatriate residents holding passports from India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh, Russia, Ukraine, CIS countries, China, Jordan, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and most other non-Schengen nationalities require a visa. You must hold a valid UAE residence visa — not a visit visa or transit visa — to be eligible to apply from the UAE.
Where to Submit — Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah residents apply at VFS Global, Wafi Mall, Level 2, Falcon Phase 2, Oud Metha, Dubai. Abu Dhabi residents apply at VFS Global, Corniche Plaza 2, Ground Floor, Al Markaziya, Abu Dhabi. Types of Austria Visa Available from UAE
Understanding which visa type to apply for is critical — applying for the wrong category is a leading cause of rejection. Austria issues both short-stay and long-stay visas from the UAE.
Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C) — Tourism and Business
The standard Austria Schengen visa allows stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period and covers all 29 Schengen countries. This is the visa for tourism, sightseeing, family visits, short business meetings, conferences, and transit. Available as single entry, double entry, or multiple entry. Multiple Entry Schengen Visa — Who Qualifies?
Multiple-entry visas valid for 1 to 5 years are issued to applicants with demonstrated Schengen travel history and strong UAE ties. Include a cover letter specifically requesting it and explaining ongoing need. The consulate may issue single-entry even if multiple was requested.
Long-Stay National Visa (Type D) — For Stays Over 90 Days

Nationality-Specific Requirements
Russian and CIS nationals (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia): 2 originally-signed forms and 2 photos. The Schengen 90/180 Rule and First Entry — Essential Knowledge
Austrian visa holders must understand two rules governing Schengen travel: the 90/180 rule for maximum stay, and the first entry rule for where you must enter first.
The 90/180 Rule
Maximum 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across all 29 Schengen countries combined — not 90 days per country. The 180-day window counts backwards from any given date. Example: 45 days in Austria in January plus 20 days in France in March = 65 of 90 days used. Overstaying results in a ban from the entire Schengen zone.
The First Entry Rule
