How the Score is Calculated
China Visa Approval Assessment Methodology
Our calculator analyzes 8 key factors that directly influence China embassy decisions. The database covers 82+ nationalities, each with an individual approval coefficient based on published visa statistics. China difficulty rating: Moderate (3/5). Each factor carries an individual weight that reflects real-world consulate decision-making patterns.
How the Weighted Scoring System Works
Each factor is scored from 0 to 100 points based on your answer. That score is then multiplied by the factor's weight (importance percentage). Your final score is the sum of all weighted scores, adjusted for the country's difficulty level.
The 8 Factors Explained
Country Difficulty Adjustment
The final score is adjusted by China's strictness level (3/5). Countries with high strictness (4–5) apply an additional deduction to the final score, as their consulates impose stricter documentation and evidence requirements. Countries with low strictness (1–2) apply no additional deduction.
Result Categories
Important: The calculator is based on published visa statistics and expert experience from processing thousands of applications from the UAE. It does not guarantee an outcome — the final decision always rests with the consular officer. Use the result as a guide for preparing your documentation.

China Bank Balance Calculator
How much money do you need in your bank account for a visa?
How Bank Balance is Calculated
China Visa Bank Balance Requirements
The calculator uses a dual-tier system: the official paper minimum and the expert recommendation. The paper minimum is the embassy's formal requirement. The expert recommendation is the amount at which your application won't trigger additional scrutiny.
The Dual-Tier System
Official rate: €null/day. This is the minimum amount stated in the embassy's formal requirements. Formula: trip days × daily rate.
The real amount that ensures approval: ~3× above the paper minimum. Based on analysis of thousands of successful applications from the UAE. At this level, the embassy doesn't raise additional financial questions.
How the Calculation Works
The calculator computes the required balance based on 3 parameters:
- Number of trip days — determines the total minimum
- Number of travelers — multiplier for family applications
- Accommodation type — pre-booked hotel reduces the balance requirement, as accommodation costs are already covered
What Embassies Check in Your Bank Statement
When to Start Preparing Your Bank Account
What to Do if Your Balance is Low
- →Attach a credit card statement showing a high available limit
- →Add an employer sponsorship letter confirming your salary and position
- →Consider reducing trip duration to lower the requirement
- →Include a fixed deposit or savings certificate as supplementary proof
Important: Financial requirements may vary depending on the specific consulate and visa type. The rates shown are based on current official data and expert experience. We recommend targeting the expert tier for maximum approval chances.

- Do UAE citizens need a visa to visit China for tourism?
- Yes, UAE citizens (Emirati passport holders) generally require a visa to visit mainland China. However, China has expanded its visa-free policies — Emirati citizens can currently enter China visa-free for up to 30 days under China's unilateral visa exemption policy introduced in 2024. Always verify the current status before traveling as these policies change. For longer stays or specific visa types (business, student), a visa is required.
- What are the rules for the '144-hour transit visa-free' for Dubai expats?
- The 144-hour (6-day) transit visa-free policy allows travelers transiting through designated Chinese ports (including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an, and others) to stay in the surrounding city and province without a visa. To qualify, you must: hold an onward ticket to a third country, arrive from and depart to a country other than China, and transit through a designated port. Your UAE residence status does not affect this policy — it applies based on your passport nationality and transit itinerary.
- Does the China Visa Application Center (CVASC) in Dubai require appointments?
- Yes. The China Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in Dubai requires an advance online appointment for all submissions. Appointment slots fill up quickly, especially during peak periods. Oki Doki guarantees a CVASC appointment slot for China visa applications within 2 weeks and manages the complete application submission process on your behalf.
- What is the 'L-Visa' requirement for Indian/Pakistani expats in UAE?
- The L-Visa is a tourist visa for China. For Indian and Pakistani passport holders residing in the UAE, key requirements include: valid UAE residence visa (minimum 6 months remaining at time of application), valid passport, completed application form, passport-size photo, confirmed or provisional flight reservations, hotel booking for first night, 3 months UAE bank statements, UAE salary certificate or employment letter, and Emirates ID copy. The CVASC Dubai processes all L-Visa applications.
- Do I need a 'confirmed onward ticket' to a third country for transit?
- For the 144-hour transit visa-free program, yes — you must have a confirmed onward ticket departing from China to a third country (not the country you arrived from). For a standard tourist (L) visa, a provisional flight reservation is sufficient — you do not need a fully paid ticket. Never purchase non-refundable flights before your visa is approved.
- Can I apply for a 10-year China visa as a UAE resident?
- A 10-year multiple-entry visa for China is available for applicants with strong travel histories, significant business ties, or approved programs. For UAE residents, eligibility depends on your passport nationality, previous China travel history, and purpose. US and UK passport holders have benefited from 10-year reciprocal arrangements. Other nationalities may receive 1–5 year multiple-entry visas based on travel history and consular assessment.
- Is a 'Salary Certificate' required for a China business (M) visa?
- Yes. For a China M-Visa (commercial and trade activities), a salary certificate from your UAE employer is required, along with an invitation letter from the Chinese company you are visiting. The invitation letter (sometimes called a PU letter or invitation approval number) should detail the business purpose, duration, and host company information. For UAE business owners, company letterhead, trade license, and business relationship documentation replace the salary certificate.
- Does the Chinese consulate in Dubai require 'hotel vouchers'?
- Yes. Confirmed hotel bookings (or a detailed itinerary showing overnight accommodation) are required for tourist (L) visa applications. The CVASC Dubai asks for at least the first and last night hotel bookings, though a full itinerary with all accommodation is preferred. Refundable hotel reservations are accepted — do not pay for non-refundable bookings before visa approval. We provide hotel booking confirmations as part of our service.
- What is the 'fingerprinting' process at the Dubai CVASC?
- Fingerprinting (biometrics) at the CVASC Dubai is a standard procedure for China visa applicants aged 14–70. You will be fingerprinted during your in-person appointment at the CVASC. The process takes a few minutes. Once enrolled, biometrics are typically stored for subsequent applications within a certain period, reducing the need for re-enrollment.
- Can I apply for an 'urgent' China visa in Dubai for business?
- Yes. The CVASC Dubai offers expedited processing for an additional fee. Standard processing takes 4 working days; express takes 2–3 working days; urgent takes 1 working day (if applied before noon). Urgency must be justified for some categories. Our team can coordinate urgent processing on your behalf to meet tight business deadlines.
- Is a 'police clearance' needed for a long-term China work visa?
- A UAE police clearance certificate (Good Conduct Certificate) is typically required for China Z-Visa (work visa) applications. It should be issued within 6 months of the application and may need to be legalized/apostilled. For short-stay tourist and business visas, a police clearance is not required.
- Do I need to show my 'Emirates ID' original or copy?
- The CVASC Dubai requires a clear photocopy of both sides of your Emirates ID as part of the document set. You do not need to submit the original Emirates ID but must present it for verification at your appointment. Ensure your Emirates ID is valid — expired Emirates IDs are not accepted.
- How much is the service fee at the China Visa Center in Dubai?
- CVASC service fees in Dubai are typically AED 80–130 depending on visa type and processing speed. This is separate from the Chinese consulate visa fee, which varies by nationality (Indian: AED 275; Pakistani: AED 275; US: free due to reciprocity; others: varies). Our service fee covers full document preparation, application form completion, appointment booking, and submission management.
- Can I apply if my UAE residence visa has less than 3 months' validity?
- The CVASC generally requires your UAE residence visa to have at least 3 months' validity at the time of application. With less than 3 months remaining, your application may be delayed or rejected on the grounds of insufficient UAE residency ties. We recommend renewing your UAE visa before applying if validity is below this threshold.
- Do I need an 'invitation letter' (PU letter) for business visits?
- For most business (M) visa applications, a formal invitation letter from the Chinese company is required. For certain nationalities and processing centers, this letter needs to be pre-approved and assigned a PU approval number by China's public security bureau. Our China visa specialists will advise you on whether a PU letter is required for your specific nationality and purpose.
- Is a 'detailed itinerary' in English acceptable for the application?
- Yes. A detailed itinerary in English is fully acceptable for China visa applications at the CVASC Dubai. The itinerary should cover all travel days, cities to be visited, accommodation for each night, and planned activities. A clear, organized itinerary in English demonstrates good travel planning and reduces the chance of additional document requests.
- Can I travel to Tibet from the UAE on a standard tourist visa?
- Tibet requires a separate Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) in addition to your standard Chinese tourist visa. The TTP cannot be obtained by independent travelers — it must be arranged through a registered Tibet tour operator as part of a guided tour package. Budget additional weeks before your travel for TTP processing. Contact our team for guidance on Tibet-specific arrangements.
- Does China accept 'Dubai-issued' travel insurance?
- China does not require travel insurance as a mandatory visa application requirement (unlike Schengen). However, for Z-Visa (work) applicants or certain government programs, health insurance may be required. For tourist and business visas, travel insurance is recommended but not a mandatory submission document. We include a travel insurance policy in our service for added security.
- What are the photo size requirements for the China visa form?
- China visa photos must be: 33×48 mm (approximately 1.3 × 1.9 inches), recent (within 6 months), in color, on a plain white background, front-facing, with no glasses, hat, or head covering (except for religious reasons). The face should occupy 70–80% of the frame. Photos must be clear and printed on matte or glossy photo paper — digital phone photos are not accepted.
- Can I apply for a Hong Kong visa through the Dubai Chinese consulate?
- No. Hong Kong has its own separate immigration system — it is not part of mainland China's visa process. Hong Kong visas for UAE residents are obtained through the Hong Kong Immigration Department's online portal (for e-Visa eligible nationalities) or at the Hong Kong visa office directly. UAE residents do not apply for Hong Kong entry through the CVASC Dubai.

China Visa for UAE Residents — Overview
China's visa requirements from UAE are among the most document-intensive in Oki Doki's portfolio, and the system is currently in a period of significant change. As of 2024–2025, China has expanded its visa-free and transit policies for select nationalities and introduced a 10-year multiple-entry visa for certain passport holders. UAE nationals now benefit from visa-free access to China for up to 30 days. However, Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Egyptian, and most Asian/African nationalities require a Chinese visa and must apply through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Dubai or Abu Dhabi — not the Embassy directly. The CVASC is the mandatory submission point; the Embassy of China in Abu Dhabi processes applications from the back end.
Who Needs a China Visa from UAE?
UAE passport holders are now visa-free for China for stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business, and transit. Citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, and several other countries are eligible for visa-free entry under China's expanding bilateral agreements — check current eligibility with Oki Doki as this list has changed multiple times in 2024–2025. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Egyptian, and most other Asian and African passport holders require a full sticker visa. UK, USA, and Canadian nationals require a visa. Applications for all nationalities requiring a visa are submitted at the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) in Dubai (Al Razi Building, Dubai Healthcare City) or CVASC Abu Dhabi.
CVASC vs. Embassy — How China's Visa System Works
The Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) is the official intake point for China visa applications in the UAE — it is not an independent agency but an authorised centre operated under the supervision of the Chinese Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Applications are submitted at CVASC, biometrics (fingerprints for all applicants aged 14–70) are collected there, and the physical visa sticker is affixed at the Embassy and returned to CVASC for collection. Do not confuse CVASC with VFS Global — they are separate entities for different countries. CVASC Dubai is located in Al Razi Building, Dubai Healthcare City, Block A, Ground Floor.
Types of China Visa Available from UAE
China issues more than 12 distinct visa categories. Below are the categories most relevant to UAE residents applying through CVASC Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
L Visa — Tourist
The L (Lǚyóu = Tourism) Visa is the standard visa for recreational travel, sightseeing, and visiting friends/relatives in China. Issued as single-entry (valid 3 months from issue, 30-day stay), double-entry, or multiple-entry (valid 6 months, 12 months, or 10 years for eligible nationalities). For Indian passport holders with a strong travel history and multiple prior China visas, 5-year or 10-year multiple-entry L visas are sometimes issued. Consulate fee: approximately USD 50–140 depending on nationality and entry type. US passport holders pay USD 185 for a 10-year multiple-entry visa.
M Visa — Business & Trade
The M (Màoyì = Trade/Business) Visa is for commercial and trade activities, attending trade fairs (Canton Fair, China International Import Expo), business negotiations, and site visits to Chinese factories. Requires an invitation letter from a Chinese company on official letterhead, or a letter of invitation from a Chinese exhibition organiser. Valid 3–12 months with single or multiple entry. For UAE-based business owners travelling to the Canton Fair in Guangzhou or tech suppliers in Shenzhen, the M Visa is the correct category — an L Visa used for business purposes creates complications at the border.
F Visa — Non-Commercial Exchange
The F (Fǎngwèn = Visit) Visa covers non-commercial visits: study tours, cultural exchanges, scientific research visits, and attendance at academic conferences or religious events. Requires an invitation from the Chinese institution hosting the visit. Commonly used by UAE residents attending Chinese language programs, academic collaborations, or NGO/government-to-government exchange programs.
X Visa — Student
The X1 Visa is for students enrolled in Chinese universities or schools for more than 180 days — a full academic year. The X2 Visa covers study programs of 180 days or less (short courses, language camps). Both require a JW201 or JW202 form issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education and an official admission notice (录取通知书) from the Chinese institution. After arriving in China on an X1 Visa, the student must convert it to a Residence Permit within 30 days.
Transit Visa (G Visa) & 72/144-Hour Visa-Free Transit
China operates a 72-hour and 144-hour visa-free transit policy in designated cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Wuhan. Eligible nationalities (including most Western passport holders) transiting through these cities' international airports can stay in the city — not just the airport — for up to 72 or 144 hours without a visa. Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, and Bangladeshi passport holders are NOT eligible for visa-free transit and must obtain a G Transit Visa. The G Visa requires proof of onward travel and a valid visa for the destination country.
Document Checklist by Applicant Type
China visa applications require a highly specific and complete document set. The CVASC returns incomplete applications — there is no opportunity to add missing documents after the initial submission. All documents must be in English or Chinese; Arabic documents must be accompanied by a certified translation.
(a) Core Documents — All Applicants
(1) Original passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended departure from China, with at least 2 blank visa pages. (2) Completed and signed China Visa Application Form (available online at visaforchina.cn or at CVASC) — must be printed single-sided; double-sided printing is rejected. (3) One recent passport-size photograph (33mm × 48mm, white background, no glasses, taken within 6 months) — must be affixed to the application form, not stapled. (4) Valid UAE residence visa and Emirates ID — front and back photocopies. (5) For tourist visa: confirmed flight itinerary (not necessarily ticketed — an agency-issued itinerary is accepted); hotel booking for the entire stay or invitation letter from a host in China. (6) CVASC service fee plus consulate fee. (7) Biometrics (fingerprints all 10 fingers) collected at CVASC — mandatory for applicants aged 14–70.
(b) Employed Applicants
Salary certificate on company letterhead addressed to the Chinese Embassy/Consulate — issued within 30 days, specifying monthly salary in AED, job title, duration of employment, and company stamp and authorised signatory. Last 3 months' UAE bank statements — minimum closing balance of AED 12,000 for a 10-day China trip. NOC from employer confirming approved leave. For applicants employed at UAE government entities: an official letter from the entity on government letterhead is required rather than a standard salary certificate.
(c) Self-Employed / Business Owners
Valid UAE trade licence (with certified English or Chinese translation if in Arabic). Last 3 months' business bank statements — minimum closing balance of AED 18,000. Personal cover letter explaining the purpose of visit, itinerary, and business activities in China. Company registration documents (MOA, incorporation certificate). If travelling for the Canton Fair or another specific business event, the official exhibitor/visitor invitation from the Chinese organiser is a critical supporting document.
(d) Dependents / Housewives
Sponsor's documents: passport copy, Emirates ID, UAE residence visa, and a notarised financial support letter confirming full financial responsibility for the applicant's trip. Sponsor's 3 months' bank statements with minimum AED 15,000 closing balance for a 10-day trip. Marriage certificate with English or Chinese translation — Chinese Embassies are strict about this for joint applications. Dependent's own Emirates ID and UAE residence visa copies.
(e) Students
Current UAE school or university enrolment certificate on official letterhead. Student ID. Bank statements (student or parent) with minimum AED 10,000 closing balance. For applicants applying for a student visa (X1/X2): JW201 or JW202 form issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education; official admission notice (录取通知书) from the Chinese institution; and a physical examination record (usually from a designated hospital in China after arrival — some apply from the UAE in advance).
Financial Requirements for China Visa from UAE
The Chinese Embassy in Abu Dhabi does not publish a fixed minimum bank balance, but CVASC Dubai processes applications from officers who apply consistent financial sufficiency criteria. Based on Oki Doki's 2025–2026 processing experience, the following thresholds apply.
Recommended Minimum Balances by Trip Duration
For a 7-day trip to Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou: minimum closing balance of AED 12,000 for a solo traveller. For a 14-day trip: minimum AED 18,000. For a family of four for 10 days: minimum AED 35,000 given higher daily costs in Chinese tier-1 cities. Bank statements must cover the last 3 consecutive months and show consistent income. China is an expensive destination by Asian standards — budget approximately AED 700–1,200 per person per day in Beijing or Shanghai including mid-range accommodation, meals, transport, and attractions.
What CVASC Officers Review — Red Flags
CVASC officers flag: accounts opened within 60 days of application with no income history; large single deposits (above AED 10,000) made in the 4 weeks before application; zero-balance periods between salary payments; non-UAE bank statements without certified translation; and statements where salary credits are inconsistent with the income stated on the employment letter. For business applicants, the business bank account turnover should be consistent with the claimed business scale.
China Visa Application Process — Step by Step
China visa applications from UAE are submitted at the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre (CVASC) — not at the Chinese Embassy in Abu Dhabi directly, and not through VFS Global.
CVASC Dubai — Location & Hours
CVASC Dubai is located at Al Razi Building, Dubai Healthcare City, Block A, Ground Floor, near the Al Jadaf metro station (Green Line). The submission window is open Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Passport collection is Sunday to Thursday, 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. CVASC Abu Dhabi is located in the Al Bateen area. Appointments are strongly recommended and can be booked online at visaforchina.cn — walk-in applications are accepted on available capacity but frequently require a long wait.
Step-by-Step Application
Step 1 — Determine your visa category (L for tourism, M for business, X for study). Step 2 — Complete the China Visa Application Form online at visaforchina.cn, print single-sided, and sign. Step 3 — Prepare all documents: passport, UAE residence visa and Emirates ID copies, photo affixed to form, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, bank statements, and employment letter. Step 4 — Translate any Arabic documents to English or Chinese through a certified translator. Step 5 — Book a CVASC appointment online. Step 6 — Attend CVASC in person: submit documents, have biometrics (10 fingerprints) collected, pay fees. Step 7 — Track application status online at visaforchina.cn using the application receipt number. Step 8 — Collect passport at CVASC during collection hours or authorise Oki Doki to collect on your behalf.
China Visa Fees 2026
China visa fees vary by nationality. The Chinese government applies a strict reciprocal fee policy — nationalities whose countries charge Chinese citizens higher visa fees pay more.
- Most nationalities (India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Bangladesh) — USD 50 (approximately AED 184) for single-entry tourist visa.
- US passport holders — USD 185 (approximately AED 679) for 10-year multiple-entry visa; USD 140 for single-entry.
- UK passport holders — USD 151 (approximately AED 554) for 10-year multiple-entry visa.
- Canadian passport holders — USD 100 (approximately AED 367).
- Multiple-entry visa (1 year, most nationalities) — USD 75 (approximately AED 275).
- CVASC service fee — approximately AED 100–150 per applicant, payable at CVASC in addition to the consulate fee.
- Oki Doki service fee — from AED 1,500 for full China visa processing including form completion, document review, and CVASC submission.
- All fees are non-refundable once the application has been submitted to CVASC, regardless of the outcome.
China Visa Processing Time from UAE — 2026
Standard processing time for a China visa from CVASC Dubai is 4–5 working days for most nationalities. Express processing (2–3 working days) and rush processing (1 working day) are available at CVASC for an additional fee. During Chinese national holidays (Golden Week in October, Spring Festival/Chinese New Year in January or February) and around UAE national holidays, processing extends to 7–10 working days.
- Standard processing: 4–5 working days from CVASC submission.
- Express processing: 2–3 working days — additional fee of approximately AED 100–150.
- Rush processing: 1 working day — additional fee of approximately AED 200–250.
- Chinese national holidays (Golden Week: October 1–7; Spring Festival: January/February) — processing extends to 7–10 working days; apply well in advance.
- Apply minimum 2 weeks before travel for standard processing; 3–4 weeks during peak Chinese holiday periods.
- Oki Doki recommends applying 4 weeks before travel for first-time China applicants to allow for any document requests from the Embassy.
The One Thing Everyone Gets Wrong — China Visa from UAE
The most consistently misunderstood aspect of China visa applications from UAE is the application form completion — specifically the travel history section and the printing requirements.
The Application Form Must Be Printed Single-Sided
The China Visa Application Form downloaded from visaforchina.cn must be printed on single-sided paper — not double-sided. This is a hard requirement enforced at the CVASC submission window. Applications printed double-sided are returned immediately without processing. The form must also be completed entirely in one session — partial completion, saving, and returning is possible, but the final version must be consistent throughout. Inconsistencies between the travel history entered in the form and the stamps in the passport are a frequent rejection trigger.
The Photo Must Be Affixed, Not Stapled
The passport photograph must be glued (affixed with adhesive) to the designated box on the application form — not stapled, clipped, or taped. The photograph must be 33mm × 48mm (not standard 35mm × 45mm), white background, no glasses, no head covering (except for religious reasons), and taken within 6 months. Applications with incorrect photo dimensions or photos attached incorrectly are returned at the submission window. Oki Doki prepares compliant photos for all China visa applicants as part of the standard service.
Financial Proof & Bank Statement Guide — China Visa
CVASC officers in Dubai are particularly attentive to bank statement quality, given that China is a destination where financial fraud has been used to obtain tourist visas for irregular migration purposes.
What Makes a Strong Bank Statement for China
A strong bank statement for a China visa from UAE shows: consistent monthly salary deposits matching the employment letter; an average balance over 3 months that reflects genuine financial capacity; no large unexplained transfers in the 4 weeks before application; and a closing balance that exceeds the recommended minimum. Statements should be printed on bank letterhead or be official e-statements with digital seal — not PDF exports from internet banking without the bank's stamp.
If Your Balance is Below the Recommended Minimum
Applicants with low bank balances can strengthen their application with: a fixed deposit certificate (FD) in their name showing locked savings; a letter from the employer confirming the trip is company-sponsored; or a supplementary sponsor letter from a first-degree relative (parent or spouse) with their own bank statements. Transferring money from another account immediately before application to create the appearance of savings is a high-risk strategy that CVASC officers flag regularly.
China Visa Rejection Reasons from UAE
The following are the most common reasons for China visa rejection from CVASC Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
- Application form printed double-sided — CVASC returns these without processing; print strictly single-sided.
- Photo affixed incorrectly or wrong dimensions — 33mm × 48mm required, glued not stapled.
- Inconsistencies between declared travel history on form and passport stamps — fill in the form only after reviewing all passport entries carefully.
- Missing hotel bookings or an invitation letter that doesn't meet the Chinese Embassy's format requirements.
- Incorrect visa category — attending the Canton Fair on an L Tourist Visa instead of an M Business Visa.
- Insufficient bank balance or large unexplained deposits — minimum AED 12,000 for 10-day trip, organic history required.
- Arabic-language documents without certified English or Chinese translation.
- Prior China visa overstay or immigration violation recorded in the national database.
- Missing CVASC service fee payment at submission — fee is collected separately from the consulate fee and must be paid in AED cash.
- Biometric refusal — failing to attend in person for fingerprint collection is an automatic disqualification.
Best Time to Visit China from UAE
China's vast geography makes climate highly variable — Beijing experiences harsh winters and scorching summers while Yunnan province has a temperate climate year-round. UAE travellers should plan around both Chinese and UAE school holiday calendars.
Spring — March to May
Spring is the best time to visit Beijing — temperatures range from 8°C to 20°C, cherry blossom season arrives in April in the capital's parks (Yuyuantan Park, Jingshan Park), and the Great Wall at Mutianyu is at its most photogenic without summer haze. Shanghai reaches 15–22°C in April — Yuyuan Garden, the Bund, and French Concession are best explored in spring weather. Hangzhou's West Lake (UNESCO World Heritage) in spring rain is one of China's most celebrated natural scenes.
Summer — June to August
Beijing summer reaches 32–38°C with high humidity and the heaviest tourist volumes — the Forbidden City and Summer Palace are extremely crowded June through August. Chengdu in Sichuan, Guilin in Guangxi, and Yunnan province offer more comfortable 22–28°C temperatures in summer. The UAE summer school holiday (July–August) is a popular window for UAE families — apply for visas 4–6 weeks ahead. Avoid the Golden Week holiday periods (late April, October 1–7) as all domestic sites are severely overcrowded.
Autumn — September to November
September and October are the optimal months for Beijing — clear skies, comfortable 12–22°C temperatures, and autumn foliage in the western hills. The National Day Golden Week (October 1–7) brings 800 million+ domestic Chinese travellers to major sites — avoid this specific window even in autumn. Guilin's limestone karst mountains and the Li River reflect autumn colours spectacularly in late October. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (the Avatar mountains) in October and November is at its most accessible.
Winter — December to February
Beijing in winter (−10°C to 2°C) is cold but manageable — the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and 798 Art District are significantly less crowded. Harbin in northeastern China (January–February) hosts the world's largest Ice and Snow Festival — elaborate ice sculptures and illuminated ice palaces at −20°C to −30°C. Yunnan (Kunming, Dali, Lijiang) remains mild at 10–18°C year-round and is an excellent winter alternative. Spring Festival (Chinese New Year, January or February) sees mass population movement across China — book flights and accommodation months in advance.
Top China Destinations for UAE Travellers
China is one of the world's largest and most diverse travel destinations — the following cities and regions represent the most popular itinerary choices for UAE residents visiting on L or M visas.
Beijing
Beijing is the political, historical, and cultural centre of China — and an essential visit for first-time travellers. The Forbidden City (entry approximately AED 27) is the world's largest palace complex with 9,000 rooms. Tiananmen Square (free). The Summer Palace (entry AED 55). The Temple of Heaven (entry AED 37). The Great Wall at Mutianyu (entry approximately AED 110 including cable car) is more accessible and less crowded than Badaling. Flight time from Dubai: 7–8 hours direct on Emirates, flydubai, and Air Arabia.
Shanghai
Shanghai is China's commercial capital and its most globally connected city. The Bund (free to walk), Lujiazui financial district, and the French Concession are the defining landmarks. Yu Garden (Yuyuan, entry AED 27) is the city's finest classical Chinese garden. The Shanghai Museum (free) houses an extraordinary collection of Chinese ceramics, bronzes, and paintings. Tianzifang and Xintiandi are the best districts for food, shopping, and boutique experiences. The Maglev train from Pudong Airport (AED 55 one-way) reaches 431 km/h — the fastest commercial train in the world.
Xi'an
Xi'an is the home of the Terracotta Army (兵马俑) — Emperor Qin Shi Huang's burial complex containing an estimated 8,000 life-size clay soldiers, horses, and chariots (entry approximately AED 183). The site is 1.5 hours by high-speed train from Xi'an station. Xi'an's Ancient City Walls (entry AED 50) are the most complete preserved city walls in China and can be cycled around in approximately 3 hours. The Muslim Quarter (Huimin Street) serves Xi'an's distinctive cuisine — lamb skewers, roujiamo (Chinese pork burger), and biangbiang noodles. Reach Xi'an from Beijing or Shanghai by 4–6 hours on the high-speed rail.
Guilin & Yangshuo
Guilin and the surrounding Guangxi province contain China's most famous natural landscape — the karst limestone mountains rising from flat rice fields and the meandering Li River (漓江). A Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo (approximately AED 220, 4.5 hours) is one of the world's great scenic river journeys. Yangshuo town is the base for cycling through the karst countryside. The Longji Rice Terraces (Dragon's Backbone, 2.5 hours from Guilin) are best in September (full rice stalks before harvest) and May (flooded terraces reflecting the sky).
Common Mistakes UAE Applicants Make — China Visa
Based on Oki Doki's experience processing China visas through CVASC Dubai and Abu Dhabi, these are the most frequently occurring and entirely preventable errors.
- Printing the application form double-sided — the CVASC submission officer returns double-sided forms immediately; the requirement for single-sided printing is non-negotiable.
- Using an incorrect photo size — the China visa requires 33mm × 48mm, not the standard 35mm × 45mm used for most other visas. Oki Doki provides CVASC-compliant photos.
- Stapling or taping the photo to the form — it must be glued with adhesive.
- Applying for an L Tourist Visa when the actual purpose is business — attending trade fairs, factory visits, or signing contracts on an L Visa creates issues at Chinese immigration.
- Not completing the travel history section accurately — inconsistencies between declared countries visited and actual passport stamps are a common rejection trigger.
- Not booking a hotel for every night — China visa applications require confirmed accommodation for the entire stay.
- Assuming the 72/144-hour transit rule applies to Indian/Pakistani/Filipino nationals — it does not; these nationalities require a G Transit Visa.
- Failing to bring the CVASC service fee separately from the consulate fee — both fees must be paid at submission in AED cash.
- Not attending biometrics in person — biometrics cannot be delegated; in-person attendance at CVASC is mandatory for all applicants aged 14–70.
- Not factoring in Chinese national holidays — Golden Week (October 1–7) and Spring Festival cause 7–10 day processing delays at CVASC.
