Austria’s Embassy in Abu Dhabi states that visa services are outsourced to VFS Global and that applicants may submit Schengen applications at VFS Visa Application Centers in Abu Dhabi or Dubai (Austrian Embassy Abu Dhabi). Plan the appointment as a separate stage from consular processing. 2. Choose Austria only if Austria is the correct Schengen destination for your itinerary.
3. Collect ECR and employer evidence before chasing the last convenient slot.
4. Book the VFS appointment in Dubai or Abu Dhabi through the current official route.
5. Attend in person and provide biometrics if required.
6. Track passport return and avoid non-refundable travel commitments unless you accept the visa risk.

Authority processing: what starts after the file is admissible

The official decision clock is not the same as your whole project timeline. Under the EU Visa Code, an admissible Schengen application is decided within 15 calendar days, and the period may be extended up to 45 calendar days in individual cases where further scrutiny is needed (EU Visa Code). For ECR delegates, the safest planning assumption is that the passport may be unavailable during processing.
